John Daly's Meltdown At The Austrian Open
By mustang6560 on 9/27/11
I'm a little late on this one, I know, but hey, we've been going through some changes here at oobgolf!
Anywho, it's been a minute since we've seen John Daly meltdown on the golf course, but the two time major champion was clearly not happy with the events that played out on the 15th hole at the Austrian Open last week. After his tee shot flew the green and landed in the water, John hit his third shot from the drop area and it landed under the TV tower behind the green. He took relief, but because he didn't drop it in the "correct" spot, he was called back by the rules official and assessed a two stroke penalty.
Frustrated, John decided he had enough and withdrew from the tournament without finishing the last few holes. Tough luck, Johnny boy!

There isn't anything that I can say about Mr. Daley's on course behaviour over tha past several years that hasn't already been said. I am not a fan of his.
If you did a little deeper...I just watched the video - to be fair, he wasn't rude, just asked the rules official what the penalty was because he didn't want to hold up the players behind him. That is the right thing to do. He withdrew because he wasn't making the cut anyway. Yeah, he should have stuck around for the last 3 holes, but if he was gonna be steamed, and Jimenez was actually playing well (he shot 69 in that second round, and ended finishing Top 10) so maybe he didn't want to bother Miguel over the last 3.
Do they have Hooters in Austria? Maybe he wanted to get some wings.

I'm sure there is more to this, but I have to agree with jrbizzle. John was frustrated with himself and he did not want to hold up other players. That does not excuse the behavior, just "reasons out" the behavior. John has lost his talent to his personal demons. Tiger is next! I wish both well.
