What Is The Best Hole in Golf?
By mustang6560 on 2/1/12
It seems like every year when the PGA Tour descends on TPC Scottsdale and the famed 16th hole for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, the golf world again tries to answer an unanswerable question - what is the best hole in golf?
Several holes come to mind, including the 17th at TPC Sawgrass, the three holes of Amen Corner at Augusta National, etc., but it's hard to settle on just one hole. Nonetheless, it's a great discussion to have with friends over a pint or two (or more) because there is no wrong answer.
No conversation is complete, however, without mentioning the coliseum (also known as the stadium hole, the rowdiest hole in golf). Few holes in modern time attract as much attention as the completely surround 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale - for obvious reasons. It's the only hole where being loud is not only tolerated, it's practically demanded! The moment the ball leaves the club face of all of the players who are fortunate enough to get the opportunity to play it all 35k fans erupt in cheers, which I imagine can be quite intimidating.
I don't know what the best hole in golf is, but I do know one thing, if you have a golf bucket list, attending the Waste Management Phoenix Open and sitting in the stands on the 16th hole should be on it! See for yourself.

I would think the 19th hole at every course in the world should be given consideration...
I know the 16th Hole at TPC Scottsdale is the loudest golf hole on tour. Nothing like being there with at least 10-15k of your closest friends.
I think the 16th at Scottsdale is awesome...it pretty much makes the Waste Management my 4th favorite tournament of the year (behind Masters and both opens, yes above PGA). As long as the fan keep tact during the swing and swing prep, I love the madness especially when someone hits a great shot. Such a unique atmosphere.

Best hole...Any hole I birdie.
Sadly they are getting fewer and fewer and further in between.
17 at Sawgrass. Easy. But I'm biased, I played it!
The 18th at Pebble Beach, 17th at TPC, "The Road Hole" at St. Andrews or the 15th at the Masters - take your pick. I will take Pebble's 18th.
What are the guidelines for 'best hole'? Is the best hole the most visually pleasing? Most nerve-racking for player AND TV audience? History? Location (Location, Location)?
after watching the coverage yesterday of the waste management, I retract my comment about the 16th hole being awesome. Crowd was dead, all corporate boxes - wasn't even silent during swing prep. The quote the announcer, it's like the 3rd inning in a 0-0 Royals game. Who cares.
The best hole is the next one.
