Spontaneous Golf Boys Performance
By mustang6560 on 2/6/12
Kyle Stanley may have won the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but Ben Crane and Bubba Watson stole the show.

The two were paired together for the third round and they surprised the well lubricated fans on the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale with a rendition of their golf boy band hit "Oh Oh Oh". While I would never encourage Bubba, Ben or the other half of The Golf Boys (Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan) to quit their day job to pursue a musical or acting career, I will applaud their spontaneity.

The PGA needs to do something about slow play. If they have time to break out into song, then they're spending too much time. Penalty for undue delay.

um... not spontaneous. @Birdie.. all bets and rules are out the door on the 16th at Waste Management... it was fine for this hole at this tourny.

Did Ben Play the hole with his helmet?

i'm all for playing to the fans but this is too much. There's no reason to stop, get a microphone and perform anything. Not at this venue and not anywhere. Unacceptable on the professional level.

I agree with Chris. Pandering to the fans is fine, just not during a round of tournament play. Do this kind of thing afterwards or during a pro am event.

But 500,000+ people.
THe community and business support is unreal, they're doing something right, and everyone is trying to replicate it, without the 16th hole by the sounds of it lol.

Song is a little too much.

Glad I missed that, to be honest. I think the song and the whole idea is idiotic. It's golf, not a concert. I just hope the up and coming kids don't replicate this behavior. Bubba lost my support, and as much as I've always liked Ben Crane, he has too. No place for this in golf, I don't care what tournament or hole.

Gimme a break. Living in Phoenix as I do you have to first attend this tournament before you put it down. Take a look at the faces of most of the players. They love the 16th hole experience and the only complaint they had this year was the stupid pin position on the drivable 17th hole on Saturday. The PGA admitted the mistake and corrected it for the Sunday finish. This event is the exception to the rule. It is only the 16th that is the exception as far as crowd noise is concerned. Are there jerks in the crowd. Yes, but they are in the minority.

People need to lighten up...you guys remind me of Shooter McGavin. "Damn you people. This is GOLF! Not a rock concert!"

I posted in another article that I love this tournament because it's unique...stuff like that at the 16th hole. So many golfers giving gear away to the fans. Singing did push the limits, but as long as it didn't slow the pace down too much...who cares?! They sang for all of 30 seconds...that used to be a half the time that Sergio waggled.

DaRupp13 Thank you for your comment. Too bad you live in New Jersey and I live in Phoenix. I think we would enjoy each others outlook on golf. Contact me if you ever find yourself in this area.

Well, the rest of the world is getting dumbed down, I guess golf better follow suit.

start complaining when something like this starts happening at Augusta, not at the Phoenix Open.

Don't get me wrong...if the fans are breaking the rules, they should be thrown out. Interfering with the players...yelling in back swings, etc. is all unacceptable. But Scottsdale is unique...Rickie Fowler (who I'm sure Spacemanyo think is the end of golf as he knows it with his flashy colors and motocross personality, forget about his golf talent) was amping the crowd up during his shot, actually much like Happy Gilmore. Rickie ended up with a birdie on the hole .

So all you "golf purists" out there, which at this point really just seems like "golf stick up the ass-ists", take it easy. It's good for the game.
