Fast and furious!
By mustang6560 on 6/11/12
The greens at the Lake Course, the host of the 112th U.S. Open, are fast and furious. If you don't believe me, just ask Matt Kuchar, who played two practice rounds last week at The Olympic Club.
“The greens on Wednesday were so firm, I saw some of the USGA guys out there on the course and I was telling them how amazed I was at how firm and fast it was,” Kuchar said by phone from California. “The greens were just, incredibly firm.
But, how firm is "so firm" and "incredibly firm"? To answer that question, we'll need to refer to the video Todd Montoya (@NV_Caddie_Todd) shared via Twitter of the 17th green at the Lake Course. I would hate to end up on the wrong end of the slope!

I wish it was Thursday already! I can't wait to see how the "professional" golfers handle the conditions at the Lake Course.

That link to the video keeps timing out. Another "Not available in your region" problem?

Years ago they asked Sam Snead if the greens at Oakmont were fast and he said he put down a coin to mark his ball and the coin slud off the green.

@ Bad Caddy ... I woke up today and had that same thought! I know the Masters has the tradition, but of all the majors, this is my favorite ... just so fun to watch!

bdurcharm - The 16th is a monster. I just read an article that said Tiger played a practice round, and hit two perfect shots just to see if he could make it and was still 20 yards short of the green.

bducharm says:
jrbizzle - 2 perfect shots still cover 650 yards - those are huge!!! 325 a piece!!!

I'm hoping that if one of the really big hitters is out of contention that they will let it all hang out to make it in 2. The 17th at Baltusrol played around 650 a few years back. I think Daly made it in 2 and Tiger overshot the green, but I think the 16th at Olympic turns more.

there was a 650 yard hole at Oakmont and Cabrera made it in 2. if conditions are right, someone can do it.
