Rory McIlroy is no Brian Wilson
By mustang6560 on 6/13/12
Rory McIlroy threw out the ceremonial first pitch last night at the San Francisco Giants baseball game.
As a Northern Irishman, Rory doesn't have a lot of experience with America's pastime, so it's fair to say he was a little nervous. Who wouldn't be? One bad throw and you're an instant YouTube sensation, plus you'll probably be featured on SportsCenter's "Not Top 10".
As long as you don't throw it in the dirt, you're good. The worst thing you can do as the first-pitch-thrower-outer is to come up short. While Rory is no Brian Wilson, his first pitch went well. He managed to carry all 60 feet from the pitchers mound to home plate without a problem.

not as smooth as his swing but not need to be ashamed by that!
Is that the US Open trophy out there on the mound with him?
I was trying to figure out what the Beach Boys' founder had to do with making the first pitch at a ball game. I obviously need to follow baseball more closely.
I disagree, if you come up short the catcher will likely short hop it no problem; they deal with low breaking balls all day. Worse is to wing a wild pitch way beyond the catcher's reach.
Surprised it was like a cricket bowler!!!
@dottomm- Yes. He only has a few more days with it before it's time to give to the next champion - unless he's able to repeat!
Kurt the Knife says:
Apparently Dustin Johnson, despite reports of his athleticism, dusted one in his effort on the mound. Just not his game, I reckon.
I, however, have been known to successfully throw a Pringle chip to the other end of the picnic table.
*strikes muscle pose*
