The inaugural Speed Golf Championship
By mustang6560 on 10/22/12
Thanks to oober caddietrap for the tip!
While Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey moseyed through his five-hour round of golf on the PGA Tour yesterday, Chris Walker raced through his round in under an hour in the Speed Golf Championship at Bandon Dunes. Chris only needed 76 strokes to get through his round in 56 minutes and 59 seconds to become the first Speed Golf champion.
The Speed Golf Championship was featured on Weekend Edition on NPR yesterday. I'm surprised more golf websites aren't covering it since everyone associated with the game (expect Tim Finchem) understands that pace of play is a problem. I don't expect speed golf to catch on (at least anytime soon) but it's good to see there is a group of golfers promoting a faster pace of play.

More of a foot race than a golf competition. The "Under 30" amateur winner shot an 88 or 89. I think I better stick with walking.
Holy crap! Forgot to add those strokes for not taking out the flag... :D
I like that animatic video a lot. Laugh if you will but I think that looks like fun. Hmmn. might be a way to get in a round before work...
I would try it. I like golf, I like running. Sometimes I jog a little during the round if I'm by myself and I'm trying to beat the sunset or whatever. It looks like fun. Plus you get a good workout. Best of all you get to play 18 holes in about an hour, that's like a win-win-win situation.
I can't imagine how frustrated he would be on a 5 hour round. Wonder if he would play as well?
Good job replacing those divots...
I used to do this all the time working at a golf course waiting on all the old farts to finish. Big deal.
