Trick Shot Golf: Ian Poulter Edition
By mustang6560 on 10/26/12
I played in a charity scramble last week and the special guest was a local trick shot artist. I've always wondered, How can a golfer who is so good at hitting trick shots not be good enough to play professional golf? It takes a lot of practice to be able to hit a drive long and straight with a 10' driver or hit a golf ball and make it pop straight up.
At the same time, I've also wondered, How would a professional golfer do at performing trick shots? Well, I have my answer. Ian Poulter recently spent an afternoon with trick shot artist Geoff Swain to try and pick up the tricks of the trade (no pun intended). Even someone as talented as Ian struggled to hit some of the trick shots.

Im gonna try some of those. Poulter did good. A lot of the tricks had the same idea where you drop it or hit it in the air. same thing done different ways.
Anybody remember the Tiger Woods commercial with Nike bouncing the ball off of two wedges, then hitting the ball from mid-air?
Be careful when trying these tricks. I recommend using a steel shafted club that you don't use anymore. Hitting a club shaft near the tip with a golf ball can crack the shaft. That is why Poulter's driver head snaps off during the session. He hit the ball with the shaft and not the clubhead.
i did that with my 3 wood once, tried to baseball the golfball and hit the shaft, snapped it 2" above the clubhead.
