TaylorMade unveils new R1 driver
By mustang6560 on 1/3/13
TaylorMade unveiled its newest driver — the R1. It's supposed to be the "one driver model that can be tuned to fit Tour pros and amateurs alike".
I'm surprised TaylorMade went with another white driver. I was certain the Company would go with a different color for the crown. What do you think?

I like the ability to change the loft to any degree but the color is ugly to me.

I'm waiting to buy the driver that comes with a dude can hit it straight.
Kurt the Knife says:
wanna plug the Anser driver, tho'. Even with my serpentine, openfaced, slugfest, 65mph head speed swing, the ball went pretty good.
Ugliest driver ever. The adjustability is nice but i couldn't look down at this thing. (that's what she said)
So where does TaylorMade go now? They have used R3, R5, R7, R9 and R11. Now they reverse direction and it is R1.
Is the next going to be R -2? I am so confused.
@bkuehn1952... I guess they were afraid to go to R13... I'm not sure George Lucas would let them go to the R2, unless it had a hologram projector built into it.
@Kurt -- I'd like to hit the Anser, looking forward to a demo day. Regarding this R1, it looks pretty sporty but not my style.

I don't mind the crown graphics or the color scheme, but that compass dial thing looks cheeseball.
+1 on the Anser, btw.
Torleif Sorenson says:
FINALLY - a driver that provides enough customization for even *me* to play consistently!
Looks horrible, but it will sell tons.
The custom head refinishers are licking their chops right now. I thought the R11 looked silly; this thing is bananas.
Still the same club as the original r11 except you can tweak it more and it looks horrible
one golf forum was saying that after 5 minutes of swinging it, the crown graphics disappear and you won't notice it anymore. if i hit well enough, i would consider buying it. i just think having 12 different loft options available to me would somehow mess up the balance of the head with the spine of the shaft....
but what do i know.
I never liked white drivers, still don't. The addition of the rear quarter graphics from a 1970 Plymouth Duster 440 Turbo* does not help.
I've always liked the white driver but went back to my trusty superfast 1. But I hate the adjustable drivers. I think their crap. Taylormade has started making soooo many drivers they are getting worse. How can you change all that stuff by twisting the shaft. It seems like a marketing ploy. Just learn how to hit a regular driver.
I always thought TaylorMade produced ugly drivers, the R1 is no exception.
@golfingbum... I agree all the adjustments seems gimicky, but I can tell you from experience that being able to adjust the heel/toe weights does make a difference. I hit an old R5 TP, and when I got it, the weights were balance, 6 & 6. I swapped out the weights to match the R5 Dual that I had replaced, 10 & 2 (I think) and the consistency I was getting with the R5 Dual returned.
Bernie Duffer says:
Play a white wood or hybrid? NO, I can hardly look at them. Yet, I play an Adams driver and 3 wood which are silver and I like the way they look. Can't explain these things.
