Loud And Proud For Stroud
By Torleif Sorenson on 6/24/13
Chris Stroud has not yet won on the PGA Tour. He might not even be the most famous person born in Nederland, Texas. And before Sunday afternoon, his highest finish on tour was a T-10 at the 2010 Players.
But he needed to chip in from 51 feet to get into a playoff with eventual winner Ken Duke at the Travelers Championship outside Hartford yesterday — and did.
Sure, he lost on the second playoff hole. But that was a clutch shot - kudos to Stroud.

Yeah, that was a great shot, maybe the 'shot of the tournament' however I find it strange that the first update of the day on obb is about the loser and not about a guy whose been on tour for 19 years, has 186 starts and finally wins, that's WOW!

Hometown boy. Never played golf with him, but had a few rounds with his Grandfather.
Hey, I was at the Travelers on Sunday, sitting at the 18th (directly above the custom planted red umbrella of roses seen on the hill behind the green) when Stroud made the chip-in. It was electric. The place went crazy. Just like they did when Ken Duke made his awesome putt a few minutes earlier. Then the first play-off hole was awesome. Stroud hit his shot straight down the middle and everyone at the 18th erupted again. As he walked up the fairway, he was pumping his fist into the air and egging on the crowd from the time he left the tee box. I wasn't rooting for either, just for a great playoff. It was stupendous. All congrats to Ken, but to Chris as well. It was a great battle and a shame someone had to lose.
Doug, I thought I recognized that face by the roses. I'm hoping Chris makes it big and hires me to fly him around. His grandfather and I used to talk about that. He's gone now, It's too bad he didn't get to see Chris start doing so well.
