Can anybody explain to me why anybody finds Will Ferrell funny?
Will Ferrell has his moments.
The person who is laughing the loudest (and hardest) is Will, and he's laughing all the way to the bank. He's financially secured his great-great-great grandchildren playing the same character since Old School.
JPJ a lot of americans these days like awkwardness humor and Will Ferrell does a very special brand of that I guess, plus he did a lot of memorable stuff on the "SNL" show. I thought he was good on it, but like Nate says a lot of his film stuff is just kind of cashing in on the early success.
Because laughter is infectious, and sometimes people just want to know what to expect. Some of the most successful comedians find a formula that works and stick with it. Jonathan Winters, John Cleese, Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, etc. All examples of folks who settled into a long career doing the same "shtick". Not everyone has to be edgy, reinventive or controversial.
