Is The Tiger Era Over?
By Torleif Sorenson on 7/22/14
Last Friday, Golf Channel's Brandel Chamblee calmly analyzed Tiger's career and whether or not he has it in him to win enough major championships to overtake Jack Nicklaus:

"Is the Tiger era over?" Wow, that's hilarious. Yes. Where have you been? Have you seen the results from the last 24 majors?
joe jones says:
Chamblee may be correct but Tiger won five times last year with a bad swing. A whole bunch of players on the tour would like the same results. Will he dominate again? Very doubtful. Will he win again? I am not going to bet against him. As long as he doesn't suffer from what I call Bulging Wallet Illness he will figure everything out.He and Nicklaus are the only two players that remained competitive as they aged. It takes a special mind set and Tiger is too proud to go slowly into the sunset. The title Greatest Player Ever is too big to just let it go.
Chamblee is a d-bag. It isn't his being a supposed "Tiger-Hater" that bother me; its the way he states his opinions as if they were scientific facts. Also, I wish he'd stop stating the obvious as if he were Moses coming down from the mount with the 10 commandments. Someone should tell Brandel that it's been over 5 years since the "Tiger-era" ended.
Maybe the Tiger era is over, the way we once knew it, but he won 5 times in a single season after injury and scandal just last year, playing in fewer events than any other top 20 Tour pro. At 37-38 yearsold, no less. Sorry Tiger-haters, but he's far from washed up. And, for the good of the game, we all better hope he continues to be a factor on a regular basis for a long time. Because, at this point, there is no one even close to being able to fill his shoes and bring people to the game and viewers to their TVs. No one playing the Tour at this point has that kind of dynamic power to take that baton from him and run with it. And, like it or not, golf NEEDS that to stay relevant. Hopefully Rory or Jordan or someone else will step up, but I don't see it. When someone starts winning 5 or 6 times a season, every season, like he did for so many years, then maybe that someone can take over the role. For now, golf still needs Tiger.
Trevino himself just said "If Tiger ain't in the field, I ain't watching."
I was shocked that with Rory leading ratings where still down 28% from last year, ouch!
Brandel is a douche. That's kinda a given. It's his "brand". That aside...
Only majors carry the significance Tiger lusts for - they're the only tournaments he wants, needs, prepares for, & schedules his entire life around.
14/44. Holy $h*t.
0/24. A different kind of holy $h*t.
Simple as that.
