Long Drive Challenge - With a Putter
By Torleif Sorenson on 10/30/14

Germany's two most successful golfers, Bernhard Langer and Martin Kaymer (both two-time major champions) recently participated in a long-drive challenge put on by auto-maker Mercedes Benz. The twist is that they were only allowed to use their putter.

We at oobgolf are still shaking our heads over the distances they were able to reach. It is almost unfair how good these two are — especially Langer, at age 57!

Have you seen an interesting golf video? Tell us about it!

FFS. If I reach 200yds with my driver I feel pretty pleased with myself.
Torleif Sorenson says:
That makes two of us, JP.

Have Adam Scott try this.

I can "launch" my putter 200yds - and have done! I have never tried hitting a ball that sort of distance with a putter though. @brianmk24 good one...and I doubt anyone could do it with a Scotty Cameron Futura.

I remember being in pine tree jail, and hitting out with the putter. I used to think it was 100 yards. But after seeing that these guys only hit it 200, my shot was probably less than 100, but I did get on in two. The more time that goes by the better the shot was.

They don't tell you they get free putters for caving the face doing this.
Torleif Sorenson says:
Perhaps I should buy my next putter from Black & Decker.

Did anyone see when Jean Van de Velde went back to Carnoustie and played 18 with just a putter to see if he could score a 6 or better?

That has to be the most cruel thing to ask anyone to do with a putter.
