World Am Recap, Day 4
By mustang6560 on 9/1/11
Every good thing must come to an end, even the World Am. So it's time for the victory cigars!
The tournament isn’t over yet, but neither of us played well enough over the four days to qualify for a chance to win the whole thing. We played our final round earlier today at Heather Glen Golf Links (red and white nines) and I got off to a terrible start – I tripled hole number five of the white course. I was 15 over par thru the first seven holes and let me tell you, I was LIVID! It took every ounce of self control to not take my driver and snap it over my leg and throw it into the water (he feels my pains). Instead, I casually picked up my golf ball after my unnecessary three putt on hole two of the red course and launched it a mile into the woods behind the green as far as I could.

At this point, my day was ruined and my personal golf of breaking 90 was out of reach, or so I thought. I’m not sure what happened – maybe throwing my ball into the woods fixed something or the golf gods took pity on me - but I managed to play the next 11 holes in just three over par to shoot an 89. I broke 90 by the skin of my teeth!
So for those of you keeping tabs on the week, Andrew won. We tied in gross score, but he had an extra stroke on me for three of the four rounds so he ended up winning by three strokes (come on!). Next year! I also didn’t win the long drive contest from yesterday’s round. Apparently, someone came after me and out drove me by 30 yards. Andrew nicknamed the winner gorilla man because there was no way a normal 12 handicap golfer could hit a drive that far.

Since our week is over, it’s time to celebrate and we have a lot to celebrate! College football is back. We finished middle of the pack finish. We’re in Myrtle Beach. The plan is to grab a couple stogies, maybe head to the beach, head to the 19th Hole to see David Feherty and then find a bar to watch the Mississippi State Bulldogs play the Memphis Tigers in the opening night of college football. Talks of mini golf were discussed too.

We will write a couple follow up posts about the World Am next week. I’ve loved every minute of my first World Am and I hope it’s not my last. You need to add “Playing the World Am” to your golf bucket list. But for now, goodbye from the 2011 Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship.

congrats on the 89.
Congrats, it looks like you both played well.
It's a whole different game when playing a Tourney. I love and generally thrive in Tournament pressure...but I have blown up a couple of times and it's humbling.
Looks like you had 4 days of fun which is the important part. We golfers sometimes forget it's a game...playing beautiful courses and with good peeps should always be fun.
tourney golf is another animal. enjoyed your posts. next year look out.
I'm back home. I did terrible!! Ha ha. About to input my scores and will add some comments on the thread in the forum pretty soon...
Good job, guys! Glad you had a good time. I will definitely add that tourney to my "golf-to-do" list.
Fun! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Just saw that there was a back to back winner. Coming out on top 2 years in a row is ridiculous.
Enjoyed the posts! Glad your back held up.
Sounds like a lot of fun. Might have to look into this for next year.
