Tim is 2nd from the left.
Your missing out on some cool charts...
Tim Wood a.k.a. twood
If you've never read a Golfer of the Week profile before on oob- please start with this one. Tim has some crazy stories- almost too good to be true, including consecutive hole-in-ones and a blow up hole like I've never seen!
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I'm 38, and a Software Quality Assurance Manager in San Diego.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I got my first set of clubs when I was 6, and started playing fairly regularly in high school. My current OOB index is 10.8.
How often do you play?
I play about three rounds a month, and practice five times a week.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
The greatest shot I ever made was on a 175 yard par 3 hole. I hit my tee shot about 25 yards and in to a bunch of junk and mud. It was a beautiful tee shot! Anyway, it was unplayable, so I had to take a drop. Still irritated over the "great" tee shot, I holed out from about 150 yards, for par!
What is your best golf memory?
My best golf memory is playing with my dad and grandfather when I was about 12 years old. We were playing the Monte Vista course at Cottonwood in Rancho San Diego. We got to hole 16 (which is actually 17 now, with the re-design) and my grandfather hit his drive out in to the middle of the fairway. There used to be a very large lake that you had to cross to get to the green. He hit ball after ball after ball in to the lake trying to get across. My dad and I kept trying to get him to just go around and take a drop on the other side, but he wanted to get across. Finally, with the last ball in his bag, he made it across. My dad and I were on the ground, in the middle of the fairway, dying laughing! He ended up carding a 27 on the hole! I probably heard my grandfather tell that story a hundred times, and it never stopped being funny! To this day, that hole is known to us as "ol' 27"!
You've got to love a good Tin Cup story!
What is your "home" course?
I don't really have a home course, we play all over the county. But most of my recent rounds have been at Riverwalk (we try and get 9 holes in, first thing in the morning, before going to work).
We should all be so lucky.
What ball do you play?
Mizuno MP-60 irons, Mizuno wedges, Ping G5 driver, Scotty Cameron Newport 2.0 putter.
Tiger Woods and Zach Johnson.
Favorite course you've played?
The Stadium Course at PGA West
Dream course you've yet to play?
I would love to play Augusta National.
Best round ever- and what course?
My low round ever is a 77 at Salt Creek in Chula Vista.
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
Consistency with the short irons.
Tell me a story.
I once saw a guy hit two hole in one's with back to back swings. It was a really busy day and there was a backlog on the tee of this hole that was probably 130 yards or so. The guy got up there and hit a ball that was right at the pin. There was a small ridge in front of the green, so you couldn't see the bottom of the flag stick from the tee box. The people he was playing with started telling him what a lucky shot it was and bet him he couldn't do it again. So he hit another ball (yeah I know, backlogged and the guy is hitting a second, and unnecessary ball). This one was on the exact same line as the first. They left the tee box and got up to the green and start going nuts... both balls were in the hole!
I don't know if anyone can top this! That's an amazing story and a great GOW profile.
