Your missing out on some cool charts...
Paul Botting a.k.a. pbotting
I'm not sure if I'm more jealous that our GoW Paul is Canadian or that he gets to go to Cape Town, South Africa for the next couple of months. The traveling certainly provides some neat golf opportunities.
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I'm 46 and am an Application Performance consultant to telephone companies who use the Intec billing system.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I started golfing when I was 16 and my oobgolf handicap is 18.
How often do you play?
Lately it has been every weekend and the occasional 9 before work, but that will soon end. I'm going to Cape Town next week for 6 months and will be playing a few times after work as well as weekends as it is going to be summer there.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
I was visiting my parents north of Orlando and went out as a single near Deland (can't recall the course name). The hole was a par 3 with the hole on a peninsula with the lake to the left and the pin was tucked about 5 paces from the left edge. It was a long carry of about 170 to the pin. I hit a nice high 5 wood that landed a few inches from the edge of the green and rolled up for a tap in birdie.
What is your best golf memory?
Playing Lahinch in Ireland as a twosome with a member (thank God!). I started the round with a birdie and had to avoid the goats on the first hole. Later in the round we were standing on a tee with the wind blowing and I looked out over the dunes and had NO idea where the fairway was - could see nothing but high waving dune grass. The member said 'just aim for the white rock'. Walking that course really gave me an appreciation for the
roots of the game.
What is your "home" course?
I travel a lot but when I come home I always play Legion Memorial in Everett, WA.
What ball do you play?
No specific ball - usually grab a couple dozen of whatever Costco has.
Top Flight Tour irons, Hogan SW, Cleveland 400 Launcher driver, Odyssey putter.
Well being a Canadian - gotta say Mike Weir
Favorite course you've played?
Gold Canyon Dinosaur Mountain outside Phoenix
Dream course you've yet to play?
Best round ever- and what course?
83 at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville, WA - under 6000 yards, but tight
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
I have trouble getting consistently off the tee. I have a pretty good shortgame that saves my scores, but if I can fix the driver (like a lot of us) I could lower scores significantly.
Tell me a story.
I was fortunate to start going on an annual golf trip with some friends in Edmonton, Canada (-40F in the winter makes you pine for the green grass). We had been going to great winter getaway locations (Phoenix, Palm Springs) and were in our 8th year when one of the guys got a sweet job producing a Golf Getaway show for a network in Canada. The next 4 years we got to golf some of the best courses free. Torrey Pines, La Costa, Orange County National, the list goes on. A sad day when the show was cancelled!
