Your missing out on some cool charts...
Gio Marin a.k.a. GolfSmith7
How old are you and what's your occupation?
My name is Gio Marin and I am 36 years old. I am also a minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I started playing golf 3 ½ years ago and my current handicap is 10.3.
How often do you play?
I play 36 holes every Sunday (We worship on Saturday).
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
I pulled the ball into the woods, the ball was below my feet and two trees where in front of me with a slight opening between them, it was soft mud to top it off and I was 110 yards away. I let the slope of the hill open up my iron, normally from that distance I would use a PW but because of the mud I took a 9 iron and hoped for the best. I swung, mud kicked up, I felt I hit it well and I didn’t hear it smack a tree but for several seconds I didn’t know where it was then suddenly I heard a thud, amazing it landed 2 feet from the pin, made birdie and shot my best round ever.
What is your best golf memory?
As a minister I like to walk the course because I use the time to reflect, one time during a one of those reflecting moments in my first year of playing golf I felt I was in heaven. It had rained that morning and as I turned the corner on a dog leg right as the sun was setting right behind the green the rays lit up the beads of rain that was still on the grass, it seemed like I was walking on diamonds. The scene was glorious and I knew then I would be hooked on golf.
What is your "home" course?
My home course is Texas A&M Course in College Station, TX, home of the Aggies and the 12th man.
What ball do you play?
I play with the ProV1x or TaylorMade Red.
I have C9 TI irons from gigagolf, they are similar to the ping rapture with a 17-4 body with a titanium face and I have them with Royal precision Stiff shafts. My Driver is also from gigagolf with a UST Pro-force V2 stiff shaft. Sadly not all stiff shafts are created equal therefore I just bought a Cleveland Hibore XL Tour Driver with the Fujikura tour red shaft it arrives on Tuesday. (see picture, too much bend for a stiff shaft hence the switch).
Tiger Woods because he is a winner and Anthony Kim... As a minister I in no way condone Tigers behavior it is sad...
Favorite course you've played?
Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas, and a course on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. The views from the top were excellent.
Dream course you've yet to play?
I would love to play Augusta even if I just played Amen corner. :)
Best round ever- and what course?
My best round ever was a 77 at Texas A&M it has been my only round in the 70’s even though I have had several 80’s on the dot.
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
My fairway accuracy but hopefully my new driver will help improve that this upcoming year.
Tell me a story.
My first eagle ever, I was in a four some with 3 other ministers, on a par five at Pecan Lakes in Navasota, Texas. I hit a massive drive down the middle and they were impressed but then my second shot a 200 yard laser landed 3 feet from the pin. I was putting for eagle. I had my friend take my Iphone 3GS to record the moment. I putted it and it broke right to left, center of the cup; my friend in the excitement forgot to push record. No video but I have the memory and 3 witnesses.

is that picture on the backswing? It looks like you are taking it back? that has to be a fast take away. the way it is bending is why it looks like it is your backswing?
@banker85- i was wondering too. i think it has to be a trainer or something.
He said it was a S flex in the article. I couldn't imagine a takeaway that fast that it would bend a Stiff V2 like that.
that driver looks like a noodle with a clubhead
That's the downswing, weight is forward and wrists uncocked a bit early maybe. Great HCP for playing 3.5 years, keep up the good work!
Here is the scoop... I returned the Cleveland too not stiff enough. So I bought a Pro force 76 gram v2 extra stiff shaft with 2.2 torques. I can swing it well but it required to much effort so that got me thinking to try the 76 gram, 2.2 torque stiff shaft and boy am I happy. You see the above shaft was a 66 gram 3.0 torque shaft and I would have trouble squaring the head b/c of my swing speed. I realize now torque was my issue and even though the 76 gram still feels whippy I don't care since I can consistently square the head.
I have heard people say when in doubt choose a softer flex that is so true in my recent driver experiment so I am switching my 6.0 riffle iron shafts to 5.5 riffle shafts I know it will help my iron distance.
@ sepfeiff Thanks on the handicap comment and you are right that was the down swing with a 66 gram proforce v2 I work on tempo all the time
