Your missing out on some cool charts...
Matt Otskey a.k.a. Matt Otskey
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I will be turning 19 years old on Friday, May 1st, and I will be entering my sophomore year at Seton Hall University next fall.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I started playing golf for real when I was 15 years old. Currently, I am a 6.4 handicap.
How often do you play?
It is AT LEAST once a week. Once school ends, it will probably be around 3 rounds per week.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
Hole #5 at Bowling Green Golf Club in Oak Ridge, New Jersey. A 350 yard par four. I tee off with my 3-iron and hit is poorly. It goes about 110 yards, and just makes the fairway. So IGÇÖm 240 out, a little downhill, and I decide to hit my 3-iron again. The ball goes up, somehow draws a little, hits the green rolls towards the hole, and disappears into the hole. I hit the worst 3-iron of my life and the best 3-iron of my life on that same hole!
What is your best golf memory?
Even though I was watching on TV, seeing Tiger drain the putt on the 18th green at the US Open to force a playoff with Rocco Mediate was unbelievable.
What is your "home" course?
I would have to say either Sunset Valley or Crystal Springs. Sunset is about 5 minutes away, but I play Crystal Springs more frequently.
What ball do you play?
When I find them, IGÇÖll play a Pro V1. But usually, IGÇÖll buy Pinnacle Exception.
I just switched 4 rounds ago from Mizuno MX-20GÇÖs to Nike Forged Blades. It took me a couple rounds to really get comfortable to the blades, but now IGÇÖm hitting my irons better than ever. Odyssey 2-ball putter (really helps on short putts)
Favorite course you've played?
The Legends Golf Club down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was pretty amazing. Every hole is a replica of a real hole on a famous course.
Dream course you've yet to play?
Bethpage State Park Golf Course. I would love to play here. Hopefully, I will be able to in the near future.
Best round ever- and what course?
Well, I just had a 76 at Sunset Valley a few days ago. But I am more proud of my 80 at the Links at Union Vale in New York. It was my first time playing that course. I hit a ton of putts, and hit my irons excellently.
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
I feel I really need to improve on my 100 and in shots. I need to find a swing that will carry the ball 65 yards when I need it to.
Tell me a story.
"Competitive golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course... the space between your ears." GÇô Bobby Jones
Confidence and mind-set is everything in golf. You can have the most talent in the world, but if you miss 3 5-footers in a row, and you let it get to you, there is no way youGÇÖre going to make the next one. When IGÇÖm on the course, I always try to forget about the last hole. Even if I birdied it, the hole IGÇÖm on is a new hole, and I need to play it differently that I played the last one.
