Your missing out on some cool charts...
Aaron Willmon a.k.a. aaronw409
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I'm 29, and I'm a math professor at a community college.

When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I started playing when I was about 15. My handicap is listed as 11, but I think it's really about 13.
[oob says it's 11.6, so let's go with that.]

How often do you play?
About twice a week.

Tell me about a great shot you've made.
When I was 16, I hit a 3 wood on a 200 yard par 3. It came out low and left, and it cut and landed in front of the green. It rolled right up on the green and went in the hole for my only hole-in-one. I was by myself though (no witnesses) and no one believes that I really did it. I have also had an eagle on a par 4 from about 160 yards (with a witness).

What is your best golf memory?
Most of my golf memories are about failures. I did bowl a 300 twice on the Wii though!

What is your "home" course?
I don't really have a home course. I live and work in Tennessee, but my friends and family live in North Alabama. I play a lot of different courses in North Alabama and Tennessee.

What ball do you play?
Bridgestone e7

Big Bertha Diablo Driver, Gigagolf GX squared fairways, Adams A3 Boxer 4 iron hybrid, Gigagolf GX920 irons, Cleveland CG14 60 degree, and Ping Karsten center shafted putter.

Favorite pro?
Stewart Cink. He is from North Alabama, about 2 hours from where I grew up.

Favorite course you've played?
Black Creek in Chattanooga, TN

Dream course you've yet to play?
Bandon Dunes or Pebble Beach

Best round ever- and what course?
79 at Bent Creek in Galtinburg, TN. It was one of the few times that I have beaten my Dad.

What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
I want to putt it like the pros without taking 20 minutes to walk all over the green to read the putt.

Tell me a story.
My first baby is due in September, and he's either going to be a pro golfer or he's going to be a left handed major league pitcher.

My first baby due in September too, good luck. and I wish it was that easy to put in an order for a pro golfer cuz then my daughter would be then next Annika!
bducharm says:
Aaron - good luck with your first child!!! They truly are special!! Your golf game will most likely suffer before it gets better!!!
HotBacon says:
Agreed w/ budcharm. I have a 1 year old at home and the number of rounds have dropped like a hot potato. Luckily the handicap hasn't followed yet :). Good luck and congrats.
NickMdet says:
Congrats on the becoming a Dad!!! Unfortunately you're game will cease to exist for a while. Oh, and the hole in one without a witness is my biggest fear. I play a lot of walk on rounds at the local course and mostly I'm alone in the early morn. I've had 2 close calls by myself, I almost feel like I want to intentionally miss because I know no one will ever believe it.
Kickntrue says:
@NickMdet- please describe "intentionally missing" a hole-in-one. Can I just say that's what I've been doing my whole golf career?
aaronw409 says:
Thanks! My game is already suffering! When I got home and told my dad about my hole-in-one he was pretty mad. He said, "I've been playing for *who knows how long* years and I've never hit a hole-in-one. I've hit the pin, I've had the ball roll right up on the cup and stop, I've hit the hole and about tore up the cup, but I've never had a hole-in-one." I just stood there and said "Yeah, I haven't done any of that stuff....but I do have a hole-in-one!" He was still mad. He got over though, because he got his first hole-in-one a couple of years ago and he had witnesses.

I have an 11 month old (future Jack Nicholas) and another due in october i am actually golfing more now then last year. (This is really my second year playing, i only played about 15 rounds before 2008 season) I am addicted to golf right now its all i think about. But i have to go at sunrise to make the wife happy. I too golf alone a lot but wouldnt care if no one believed me... No hole in ones....YET!
Backquak says:
my golf has definitely suffered with the arrival of our 3rd, but I blame it more on the economy. My hole in one was almost not witnessed. I was playing by myself, waiting on the group in front when a couple guys caught up and we decided to play together, I holed the very next hole. I've wondered if anyone would have believed me if I was by myself. That would suck. Congrads on the new one on the way.
GBorn says:
Hey Aaron, congratulations on being Oob golfer of the week. I also had a hole-in-one, and didn't have a witness...I swear on my grandmother's grave. Oh well, the golf God knows we had a hole-in-one.
BlaqShamrokk says:
I know how you feel bro i got a hole-in-one that was unwitnessed so i feel your pain
aaronw409 says:
It really doesn't bother me that it was unwitnessed. I know it went in...I couldn't believe it at the time, but it was a hole in one and I don't care if anyone believes it or not. I know I did it.
k-von says:
Aaron, not to derail the flow of conversation, but whenever I see clones in the bag I have to ask: what's the verdict?
falcon50driver says:
I've had four eagles on par 4s, one of which wasn't witnessed. I know how you feel. I got the witnesses to sign the other three cards.
aaronw409 says:
kjn122, I can't vouch for all "clones" but almost every club I've bought from gigagolf has been high quality. They will put whatever shaft or grip you want on whatever "style" club head you like and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If I had plenty of expendible cash, then I probably wouldn't buy them, but they are definitely worth the money.
munk24 says:
Aaron, congrats on your first kid and the hole in one, my biggest fear is after hitting a shot on a par 3, dropping a ball and knocking it in, I have nightmares about that. Saw you played Becky Pierce in Huntsville(Its a golf course for those with dirty minds)A friend of mine Steve Robertson runs the course for the city. Good luck on the sleepless nights coming up.
aaronw409 says:
I love Becky Pierce. One of my favorite courses in North Alabama to play.
