Your missing out on some cool charts...
Mike Webster a.k.a. Mjw71772
How old are you and what's your occupation?
37, United States Navy Hospital Corpsman

When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I played a few rounds out of high school, then did not play for many years until I had neck surgery and the Dr. told me I cannot play contact sports. That is when I realized, I was left with darts, bowling, or golf, everything else is a contact sport to me, oh and since I don’t drink it kind of rules out bowling and darts. So I guess it was around late 2004, early 2005. Handicap is 13ish.

How often do you play?
As often as humanly possible. Usually 1 or 2 rounds a weekend. Looking to get more rounds in.

Tell me about a great shot you've made.
The greatest shot I ever hit was at a 350+ yard par 4 at Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run. I teed up the ball drove with my Cleveland 460 Comp 10.5 degree driver, the ball had a hi draw to it, somehow it got caught in the wind path, took the draw and hit just short of the green, then rolled up. I walked up, apologized to the men up there, which in turn they asked if that was my drive, I said yes, and they told me never to apologize for a drive like that. Bad part was I went on to 3 putt, for a 4.

What is your best golf memory?
Best golf memory I have to split between 2 of them. My son, “minime” loves to golf, when he was visiting this past summer, he was playing from the red tees, and in a matter of 2 weeks had his first GIR and a First birdie. His birdie came on my birthday which he likes, so he and will always remember it.

What is your "home" course?
For now I would have to say any course I can get on. I don’t like playing the same course over and over, I feel it doesn’t help develop me as a golfer, it would just develop me as a golfer of that course. But if you have to have one course, I will give a shout out to Selfridge Golf Course on Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Twp, MI. Whenever I go home to visit family, I make sure to get at least one round in there, I love that course.

What ball do you play?
I routine like to try new balls, but the one I have found that fits in my budget and game the best is Precept Laddie ( I buy the double dozen pack)

Clubs?
Dr- Taylor Made R7 Limited
3w- Maxfli CrossBax
5w- Clevelend Launcher 19degree
3-SW= TaylorMade Tour Burner Irons
56- Maxfli
Putter- Odyssey #7 Teron

Favorite pro?
Mmmm wow, not sure, Male maybe Freddie Couples, who doesn’t like Fred, Female- Paula Creamer, she has a great swing.

Favorite course you've played?
Plantation Course at Kingsmill, got a great deal so how can I not like it.

Dream course you've yet to play?
This question should be removed, if someone doesn’t say Augusta National, something is wrong

Best round ever- and what course?
I have shot a 79 a few times, I think most recent was at Falling Creek in Kinston, NC

What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
Approach shots, I would love to be able to stick them within 15 feet like the pros, until then, I will keep working on it.

Tell me a story.
Here’s a story of a lovely lady…..Oh wait.. not what you meant. Well I have gotten the nickname “Tree Spike” Mike. I have a bit of an issue when I do not play to my potential and sometimes my clubs “accidentally” have been known to slip from my hands. Well when playing the Sound of Freedom Golf Course at MCAS Cherry Point, NC My driver happen to “slip” from my hands, and get caught up in some viney bushes. We had to pull the cart up so I can stand on the front, my buddy Tom held me so I didn’t fall, thanks to the design of the Teron, I was able to get it back, I don’t use that driver anymore. And yes you should always look for multi-uses from your clubs. I know I do.

Thanks!

He must not play in Texas, cause down here "beer is cheaper than water", just ask Andrew. And that is now my excuse for drinking on the course. Beer is cheaper than water... lol ...I love it;)

@typhoon: maybe thats why your handicap is 33+....BURN! i dont drink and golf anymore unless its a scramble and the booze is all free. i go to golf and get better, drinking does not help with that goal.

I always seem to play better after a few beers or a nice glass of crown royal.. I'm more relaxed and the shots start to flow. However, there is definetly a point where my game starts to drift..It's hard to putt when the balls is constantly moving on the tee!!!

If you are putting from the tee, I think you are definitely way beyond the point where your game is starting to drift:)

He has to put from the tee because he had so many he left the rest of his clubs (and cart) back around the 3rd hole. haha.
