Your missing out on some cool charts...
Chuck Elder a.k.a. Chuck Edler
How old are you and what's your occupation?
41- Instructor and Bag Room attendant at a private club.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I started playing when I was 9 at the
Van Nuys par 3 in CA. Current hdcp is 3.
How often do you play?
Once or twice a month. Working at a golf course is more about others playing.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
I hit wedge to a foot in regulation after cold topping my second into a reachable par 5 in the Nevada Open. It was great to have bounced back immediately after a bad shot in a tournament.
What is your best golf memory?
My only Hole-in-one which I almost called. It came in the Clark County Amateur on the fourteenth hole. As we stood on the tee, one of the competitors commented that it was really difficult to see the balls flight against the cloud cover present that day. I turn and say to him, "Yeah, but a golf ball fits into the hole just as good from 200 yards as it does from 2 feet."
What is your "home" course?
Twin Hills CC in Longmeadow, MA. We've hosted a couple US Open qualifiers. Like a lot of New England courses, it's a driver's course where the tee shot can really set you up or really hurt your score.
What ball do you play?
Titleist Pro V1X. The regular Pro V's are just too responsive when combined with the spin milled wedges.
I like Titleist a lot. I haven't found anything that can kick my 905R out of the bag. I put some soft stepped KBS Tour X's in my 660 irons and found a higher ball flight which I'm still adjusting to after playing the DG S300's for years. I love how the new 909 fairway and hybrid set up at a 1/2 degree open, and I trust my short game with Vokey wedges and either a Scotty or an old school carbon Cobra putter by De La Cruz.
Besides Natalie? Tough one. It's great that we are watching Tiger in his prime. But the fact is that Tiger himself gave the nod to Moe Norman and Ben Hogan for their ability to strike it well every day. So coin toss there for me, as both Moe and Hogan had complete control of their swings.
Favorite course you've played?
Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newprot Coast, CA. There are two courses at Pelican Hill and both are beautiful and challenging while still being fun to play. You can play them everyday without feeling beat up like you might at say, Rio Secco in Vegas.
Dream course you've yet to play?
Cypress Point Golf Club
Best round ever- and what course?
64 at the Mesa Linda course in Costa Mesa, CA. It's driver and a mid to short iron second shot into the par 5's for me, but a 64 is a 64.
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
I've been working on gaining complete control of my swing for almost 2 seasons now. While my misses have improved, I wouldn't go and bet a paycheck on it just yet, so I'll go with continuing the quest of having a swing I'm in complete control of, pure ball striking.
Tell me a story.
How about some advice? If you're going out for the tour and you know that you're not Tiger, have a back up plan.
