Your missing out on some cool charts...
Bob Hooe a.k.a. bobhooe
What is the best advice you ever got on the golf course? For bobhooe, it was "stop trying to show off and just hit the damn ball." Now that's sound advice.
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I am 32 and I do CADD and 3D modeling for the Army Corps of Engineers.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I have been swinging clubs since I was 9 or so but have started to take golf a bit more serious in the last 5 years. I’m down to a 10.5 right now.
How often do you play?
I get to play just about every weekend the weather permits and I try to hit the range once mid week.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
Last year I played Quail Chase Golf Club with a couple of work buddies. I was fresh off a lesson and told myself not to worry about my score and to implement the new swing no matter how awful the results. First hole I eagled from 120 out. First eagle of my life on a par 4.
What is your best golf memory?
Living in Louisville and with a brother-in-law in politics I wound up with a ticket to the Ryder Cup on Sunday a couple years ago. I had a catered village pass with free booze and I got to watch Anthony Kim sink a put to beat Garcia 5 and 4.
What is your "home" course?
Indian Springs Golf Club in Louisville, KY.
What ball do you play?
Pro V1x, until I lose 2 in a round then it’s whatever.
Drivers: Titleist 907D2
Fairway Woods: Titleist 909 F2
Irons: Titleist AP1
Putters: Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport
Favorite course you've played?
Debordieu Colony Country Club in South Carolina, very plush and kind of spongy. It is a Pete Dye design I believe.
Dream course you've yet to play?
Harbor Town Golf Links, going to Hilton Head in May so we’ll see.
Best round ever- and what course?
I shot a 78 at Champions Pointe Golf Club last year. It’s a Fuzzy Zoeller course right across the river in Indiana.
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
My dismal GIR percentage.
Tell me a story.
I got paired with a married couple that had to be in their late 70’s. I was in my 20’s at the time. I could feel a 5 hour round coming on. I almost bailed. They seemed nice enough though and it was a great morning so I decided to stick it out thinking I could join the group in front if it was too painful. I hit a decent first drive and they were very complimentary as you would expect from an older southern couple.
Right from the first tee box I knew I made the right decision to play that day. We walked up to the men’s senior tees and after an errant drive right, the old lady started in on him. “Stop trying to show off in front of this young man and just hit the damn ball.” I think her tone was more of a surprise to me then the fact that his shot wasn’t that bad and it almost caught up to my ball.
She reminded me of a cross between Mrs. Garrett from the Facts of Life and a mule caught in barbed wire. I watched as she knocked it right down the middle from the red tees about 130 yards with a persimmon wood older than I was. I didn’t see her miss a fairway that day. It was methodical. It actually made me swing with a better tempo. I didn’t feel like I had to crush the ball or show what a big man I was. I was just swinging and watching these two carve up this links course with 90 yard 6 irons and precision bump and runs. Whenever I catch a case of the shanks I hear Mrs. Garret's voice (I can’t recall her real name, it was like ten years ago) “stop trying to show off and just hit the damn ball.”
It was refreshing to play alongside 2 people so madly in love with each other and the game. Wringing every last par out of life and enjoying the short grass. Everyone deserves that in life. I beat her husband by 5 and she beat him by 7.

Fantastic story! Good luck in your quest to improve your GIR percentage. That's definitely one of my biggest obstacles also.
So what you're saying is she beat you by 2?

Thanks for an awesome story and congrats on GOW.
Yes I got whipped by an old lady is what I'm saying.
