Your missing out on some cool charts...
Courtenay Carson a.k.a. accarson3
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I’m 61 and work for Thomson Reuters as a Federal Gov’t Strategic Account Manager.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I started playing in 1992, but really started playing regularly in 2008. Handicap about 25.
How often do you play?
At least 18 holes/week and strive for 36+.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
During an early a.m. back 9 round on the par 4 13th at Reston National, from the rough, I hit a 125 yd worm burner toward the green. When I got to up to the green I couldn’t find my ball so figured it had gone over into trouble (as usual). However, a worker on a mower next to the green pointed to the hole...miraculously it had gone in! Upon closer inspection of the dew on the green, I could see the track to the hole. Of course my playing partners were looking for their balls down a hill so didn’t see it...good thing I had a witness.
What is your best golf memory?
One of my best golf memories occurred before I even picked up the game. I was a radio sports broadcaster in SC (mid-70’s) and covered a celebrity golf tourney nearby. I had the opportunity to interview and talk with (among others) Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead. Snead sat in the clubhouse after the round shooting the s**t with anyone who was there. Palmer was the most gracious sports person I ever spoke with. At the time I probably didn’t realize that I was in the company of golf greatness as much as I do now looking back.
What is your "home" course?
Play the most at Brambleton Regional Park Golf Course
What ball do you play?
I like the Titlest DT Solo. Like the feel when I putt plus I don’t feel too bad when I lose one since they are relatively inexpensive.
Drivers: TaylorMade Burner '09
Fairway Woods: Callaway Diablo Edge
Hybrids: Callaway Diablo Edge
Irons: Callaway Diablo Edge
Wedges: Adams Golf Tom Watson PVD
Putters: Odyssey White Ice #1
I follow Tiger despite his recent problems. No matter the circumstances, I think he is still the most interesting and compelling player on tour. Hope he’s in contention at the US Open.
Favorite course you've played?
Most of the courses I have played are local to No VA. One of my favorites is Westfields Golf Club. It’s a Fred Couples design which doesn’t require driver on every hole and forces you to think your way around the course...lots of risk and reward even for a high handicapper like me.
Out of town I like River’s Edge in Shallotte, NC (near Myrtle) for the same reasons.
Dream course you've yet to play?
It would have to be Pebble Beach because of its history, the scenery and just to be able to say, “I played a round at Pebble Beach.” (Just like a guy I had never met said to me during a round...unsolicited.)
Best round ever- and what course?
At Brambleton, I shot an 88 in August, 2011...it’s been all downhill since then.
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
I can pick only one? In that case it would be to be a better course manager when I play and to give myself more opportunities to score especially around the green.
Tell me a story.
The best man in my wedding was diagnosed with liver disease...it was terminal unless he got a transplant. He was an avid golfer and at one time played to a low double digit handicap. On Labor Day weekend, 2008 we got together at Lake Keeowee, SC to play some golf and take in an early season football game. My friend was feeling pretty lousy, but he tried not to show it. On that Saturday, we played a round at Boscobel Golf Club in Pendleton, SC. – one of his favorites. During the round he could hardly walk from the cart to his ball at times. However, we played the whole 18 and he shot a 92. Say all you want about Tiger’s US Open win on one leg, my buddy’s play that day was the most courageous thing I have ever witnessed. He was going to finish no matter what. Regrettably, it was the last round of his life, but I was glad I had the chance to be with him playing a game he loved.

Great story, and a fun little course there in Pendleton.
Congrats on GOW!
BTW @accarson3, I played a round at Pebble Beach. ;)
BTW, want to add that since this profile was created, my handicap has dropped to 17+ and I still haven't played at Pebble Beach!
Welcome to the GOW club!
Congratulations and a great story. Glad to hear that handicap has dropped too.
