Your missing out on some cool charts...
John Derrick a.k.a. jderrick96
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I am 15 years old and I am in high school student.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I started playing golf in the backyard with my dad at 4 years old. My first competitive round was at age 7 in "Little League Team Golf" at a local par-3 course. My current index is 5.2.
How often do you play?
I have been playing in tournaments once or twice a week since summer has started. I play with my dad once a week, as well. So, on average, 2-4 times per week.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
On my 10th birthday, I was in the mountains with my family and I was golfing with my dad and uncle at Waynesville Country Club. On the second hole, I had 90 yards in and hit a 9-iron into the hole. It was my first ever eagle and a great way to celebrate my birthday!
What is your best golf memory?
My best golf memory was in March 2007. In a local golf tournament, I was down by two strokes with two holes remaining when we reached the 17th hole. My playing partner hit his ball onto the green to around 10 feet. I went up second, and on the uphill, 65 yard hole, I hit a 9-iron into the hole. I didn't see the ball go in, but my playing partner said, "I think it went in!" After high-fives all around, I ended up winning the tournament by one! Great day!
What is your "home" course?
I am a member at Greensboro Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. We have the opportunity to play two great courses, Irving Park and Carlson Farm.
What ball do you play?
I play with the Titleist Pro V1x. I love the way it checks up around the greens and I still manage to get the distance that I want!

Tiger Woods. He hits shots that nobody else can hit, he is very fun to watch and always brings excitement to tournaments that he plays in.
Favorite course you've played?
Pinehurst No. 2. All of the history at the resort and on that course is amazing. I have had the great chance to play every single one of the Pinehurst courses in my life so far, but Pinehurst No. 2 was by far the best experience.
Dream course you've yet to play?
By far, Pebble Beach. I went to this year's U.S. Open in San Francisco and we took a day to ride up to the Monterey Peninsula. The course is like nothing that I've ever seen and I can't wait to possibly play it as a college graduation gift from my Dad!
Best round ever- and what course?
My best round was at Pinehurst No. 3. I shot a 71 (1-over par). I have yet to beak par on an 18-hole round but have done it several times on 9-holes. I hope I can say I've changed that best score soon!
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
Putting. I've always been a good putter, but I always find a way to miss the occasional 3-footer. I would love to make those more automatic. With those falling every time, my scores would drop!
Tell me a story.
One story outside of golf that I remember the most is my first day of school after I moved from Atlanta to Houston. I was three at the time and I did not want to go to school at all. My mom was home pregnant with my sister and was on bed rest. My dad took me that morning and I spent the day starring out the window. At the end of the day when the bell rang, I was the first one out the door. I sprinted down the hallway and jumped into my dads arms. It was almost like I hadn't seen him for months! This day is still very clear in my mind, even though I was only three. My dad and I still talk about it to this day!

There is nothing better than the feeling you get when your child yells "Daddy" and runs to you and gives you a hug.
Welcome to the GOW club. Stick with golf and you will have many future great stories and experiences to pass along to your kids and grand kids.
I really like the story about greeting your Dad after school.
You are one lucky kid! You can remember something from being 3? and you were in school when you were 3? Had to be a preschool. Keep up the work you have a better game then most people who use oob and it should only get better!
Duke of Hazards says:
congrats on GOW, John. Nice form in that swing of yours. Keep up the great play.
It's cool that we have some legit tournament players here on the oob. Excellent GOW pick Nathan, glad the kids are being represented. "JD" here sounds like a model citizen of the golf world.
Congrats on GoW!
Coach Chuck says:
Keep up the good play. and remember golf is a game, wins are fun losses are learning experiences, and there is always another match next week. and God and family are more important than golf. That being said, Chipping and Putting. Chipping and putting. Chipping and Putting. For all the shots that Tiger and Phil have they are masters of Chipping and Putting thats why they can try other shots. Have a great life John.
Congratulations on GOW!!
