Fair Score
Fair score is a new concept introduced by oobgolf. It is a simple and fair way to compare multiple scores that accounts for difference in courses, pars, and player skill.
A key component to USGA handicapaing is USGA differentials. These are essentially the difference between your ESC Score and the score that a scratch golfer would record on the same course. It is calculated as follows: ((Score - Rating) X 113) / Slope You can see your own differentials by clicking on the "handicap" link next to your index on your "my game" page. USGA differentials are great because they allow two golfers to compare scores on completely different courses. One course might be a par 69, 5,300 yarder and the other a par 72, 7,100 yard course, but their differentials are still comparable due to the fact that the USGA rates every course with a USGA rating and Slope. The problem with USGA differentials are that they don't take into account the skill of the golfer. For example if I (20 handicapper) shoot a 85, its a much better score than if Tiger Woods (+8 handicapper) shoots a 75. Commonly Net Score is used for this comparison. But net score is only usefull when comparing two scores on the same course. Thus oobgolf is using the following formula: USGA Differential - USGA Handicap Index = Fair Score [ comments ]
I don't know if this is the best place to make this comment. I would like to have a blank box on every hole to enter stats of my own - or anyone's - choosing. It could stand for beers, foozles, devine intervention, whatever. To keep it simple, it would just add up and give a total like the other stats. I love any stat geeky addition - graphs, charts, eclectic scores. The lowest combined score among a group at a course over time? Can you do? -Thanks 9/28/08
Sounds interesting. It works because you apply the formula to everyone and every round. 1/25/09
is there a way to allow to track the correct handicap if a player constantly shoot over 40 handicap? 2/2/09
Krishan, the formulas are always the same. For differential for a single round it is (your score - course rating) * 113 / course's slope rating. Then for your handicap index (HI), it is the (average of your ten lowest differentials of your 20 most recent scores) * .96. So the math will work no matter how big the scores. It is just that the USGA has established maximum HI's, 36.4 for men, and 40.4 for women. Hope this helps! 6/25/09
Krishan, if you click on "handicap" on you my game page, you will see your actual handicap not capped at the USGA max. 7/3/09

With my previous USGA handicap, the maximum score I could post for any one hole was 9. Is there any such maximum for posting scores on oobgolf?? 10/13/09
