smartSCORECARD
By Kickntrue on 8/18/08
I know a lot of people are loving the iPhone right now. We have a partner, smartSCORECARD, that built a pretty cool FREE application. smartSCORECARD is an app that works on ANY device with a smart browser but looks especially sharp on the iPhone. It has actually been featured in Apple's web application listing under sports for almost a month.

Oh yah- maybe I should mention the most important part... It integrates automatically with your oobgolf account. No hassle of keeping your score on one app or device and transferring it. It directly sends all of you scores into your account as well as features as a live score on our site.

So why would you use smartSCORECARD instead of oobgolf's mobile scoring? The main reason is that you can enter all of the groups golfers with the same phone. The second reason would be based on looks and ease of use. If you like it better- we're happy to have you use it, because smartSCORECARD is our partner and we are still helping you track your game.

Like I said before- this is a web app and will work with other phones besides the iPhone so check it out. A native iPhone app is in the works.

When I review past scores, the overall score is correct but the score for each hole is wrong. It shows my first hole from Saturday night as -1 for the number of putts and blank for the total score. We'll see how it does on entering scores this coming Sunday.

great move. This weekend I was on a course with sketchy net access and couldn't submit certain scores. Having an off line version with the ability to sync will solve that problem. I will download it tonight :)

Oh man, no trash talk on the app. Not as fun but good if you wanna keep scores of the whole group!

Helfon, this is a webapp. it's not a local app.

Understood, I was describing the issue that this was going to solve for me :)

Does it work for iPod Touch

Kickntrue says:
I guess it would if an entire course was blanketed with Wi-Fi (Correct me if I'm wrong, someone). That seems pretty unlikely though.

I just looked in the iPhone app store and can't find it. Boo ;)

Ahh, apparently not understood... yes a native iphone app that can sync whenever it can get a connection would be cool.

Kickntrue says:
mski37- it is in the web app store, not the iphone app store. A native iphone app is being worked on.

I have an iPhone. I also have a scorecard and one of those little golf pencils. Its very cool, but I'm not clipping my phone to the steering wheel or taking it in and out of the case every hole. Maybe that's just me being stubborn and/or lazy.

How about a version that works on my BlackBerry? I have been using the mobile oobgolf site to track my scores but it would be great if I could entire scores for the entire group.

I'm the guy with too much time on his hands that wrote smartSCORECARD (instead of improving my game), so I'll address some of the questions and comments:

Is a signal required throughout the course? NO, just at the beginning (when you start a scorecard) and end (when you're done). If there is a connection during the round, smartSCORECARD will update your live hole. If not, it waits until it has one and updates all pending holes.

BlackBerry: At this point, the alternative is for me to get smartSCORECARD to work on Opera Mini (you'll have to download OM first), but it depends on the demand--send me feedback if using smartSCORECARD with BB/OM is of interest to you.

iPhone Native App: In the works...

Again, if you have any questions/comments, please send them to feedback@smartSCORECARD.com!

iluv5pam says:
awesome work chuck! i've noticed the distance off the tee last time i played on tuesday. one thing though: i see that it calculates average "drives/shots" off the tee. if one was trying to calculate average "drives" on par 4/5's, the par 3's seem to interfere with that. i don't know if this is in the works or not, but will oobgolf.com add a stat for average drive? and if they do, i suggest we don't factor in our first shot off of par 3's. thanks for the great work sir.

A couple of you have notified me that there is an iPhone native app that supposedly works with oobgolf called Fore! Note that it is NOT my application. Depending on how my relationship with oobgolf continues, I may or may not release an iPhone native app version, but if I do, it will NOT be $24.95.

thanks, Chuck

I have just found this cool little web app but can't seem to get it to work. After entering a course, and I've tried many, the first hole won't allow any input. going to the second hole and any others I can enter info but the GIR is not active at all so it won't allow me to enter accurate info. I have tried this on my iphone and on my computer and I get the same result. Am I over looking something? please help

jerrygray says:
ok I've figured out how to enter the scores correctly now but still have a problem. If I log in, select a course, add another player, I see my name on top and my friends below mine. go to the first hole and my name becomes "0" and the "tee" shows 33539. My friends name is fine and the "T" says white. I cannot enter scores on the first hole but my friend can. When I'm entering his scores I see my name on top beside his fine. on the second hole and there after I can enter scores fine but I am still "0".
If I log in using my friends info and add myself as a second player everything looks fine and I am no longer "0" on the 33539 tees.
I'll do the latter until I can get help with my user.
