oobgolf/PSP Golf One-Club Challenge
By Kickntrue on 9/16/08
** LAST CHANCE** LAST CHANCE** LAST CHANCE**
oobgolf has partnered with PSP Golf to present the One-Club Challenge. Here is how it works: You go play a round of golf using only a single golf club for every shot of 18 holes (including putting). The best Fair Score will win the respect and admiration of the whole oobgolf community as well as a PSP Golf club valued at over $139. Fair Score is also based on your current handicap index and thus makes it an even playing field for anyone regardless of skill level.
The contest will run from today- September 16 to October 16. Below is the current live leaderboard.
Here are the rules:
* FAIR SCORE is differential ((Score - Rating) X 113) / Slope) minus your personal handicap.

I am pretty excited about this. I think I might post a better than average score. I am going with 7 iron.
I'm debating between my 7 or 8. I would've def said 7 if you asked me 3 months ago- but I've been loving my 8 lately.
I'm going with my 2 iron. It's flat enough to putt with and long enough to make the par 5's easier. Should be able to reach all 4's in 2 and 5's in 3.
Oh man I'm in... gotta do this.
I've always wanted to do this! I'm in!
Always wanted to try this, gotta find a cheaper easier course to do it on, with no superlong carries. Played once with 3wood, 6iron, wedge, and putter and beat my regular course average.

Sounds like a little TIN CUP actions....so what did you think my best shot was today, that 7-iron on 12 no no...it was the 7-iron on 16. I just qualified for the US Open with a 7-iron....WHY? So i could win a PSP.... I AM IN.... Not sure what club to use. I might do this Friday.

Me and my buddy did this for 4 straight holes not long ago. 1 par 3, 1 par 5, and 2 par 4s. I made par on every hole with a 4 iron. If I play, then that;s the club I will use.
I'm wondering where the scores are at?!! You guys going to let me just walk away with the win?
I just shot a 91 with my 2 hybrid. I love that club. I shot a 103 with all 14. Think I'll put the driver away for a while. Maybe the wedges, too.
Wow- congrats. yah- it's really amazing. I can see how 2h helped with distance and even chipping/putting- but how did you handle an 80 yard shot with a bunker in front?
Luckily the sand out here is very hard. A lot of bunkers are puttable around the greens. Both traps I was in were like this. Best shot? Hole 3. Par 3 playing about 187 with water in front and sand in back. Dropped it 6 feet from the hole. Can't believe I blew the putt.
Im off to play my round right now. Im using a 7 iron which I normally hit around 170. Dave's awesome score means im gonna have to go real low to win but it looks like alot of fun regardless.
I just finished my round, and it was alot harder than i thought it would be. The putting was just a joke, 45 total with 8 3-putts. And to go along with all those putts i had several multi-chips to get to the green. I hit my 7 iron about 170 normally, and by the end of today was hammering it consistently 190 down the center. On the last 2 holes I hit my driver off the tee for fun after putting my 7 in the fairway, and both times the 7 iron was closer to the pin.
It was fun to do, but I would definitely say I enjoy playing with all my clubs. Maybe if I could just use the putter as well as one club it wouldnt have been so brutal.
I'm going to give it a try. I'm going to use my 7 or 8 depending on where I play. Just have to find the time. I can putt with my wedges but don't know how an iron will work out on the green.
eyoder and i played this today. i used a 5 iron he took a 3 iron. we both agreed that the 5 was a better choice.
i do this all the time
should be easy for me
always shoot under par
had another good one today
good challenge for me cause this is how i usually play golf cause i cant hit my woods of wedges well
Way to be a cheat ramonearl. Get the heck out of here.
I had a lot of fun using one club, my 25* hybrid, which I hit about 200 yds. My course has about four 400 yd holes and two 200 yd par 3s. It took me a bit to figure out how far a 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 knock down would go (not to mention chipping & putting with the hybrid), so my back nine was better than the front. I lost the most # of strokes chipping, but learned to play a splash shot out of a bunker. Neat.
2-under with a 6 iron? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Glad that cheater is gone. What about the rule that employees of the Sponsor(s) and their immediate families (spouse, parent, sibling, child, and respective spouses) and those living in their immediate households, whether or not related, of Sponsor and its respective parents, affiliates, and subsidiaries are not eligible to enter or win a prize?
Just gave it a go with a 7-iron, that was very challenging. I almost always chip with a wedge, and putt with a putter, so the short game was a struggle. Lipped out a lot of putts and made very few. If i had to do it over again I'd use a 6, those 350+ par 4's were a stretch.
I'd say putting was the hardest thing at first (besides the normal chunkages) the ball just didn't seem to roll right on the greens. Eventually i made a couple and kept getting it close enough to two putt.

ill try this
Hey, anyone notice that of all the posted scores, everyone's back nine was lower than their front. For example, on the course I played, the back is harder than the front, but I scored better.
Gabe Kapler says:
7 iron not the club 50
Great challenge. 6 iron was a good choice for me, as it made all but 2 of the par 4's in 2 and 2 of the par 5's in 3. Putting is insane though. Finally went to a bump and run on the green and got some 2 "putts".
Low round of his life....and with only his 6-iron? Hmmm.
on the other 1 club challengr page it said this was extended. Is this challenge still going on?? If it is I'm heading out 2morrow to do this!
how do you enter your contest score?
ill use either a 5 iron or a hybrid
ill use a hybrid
a hybrid is the perfect club because you get distance accuracy and loft but itll be tough from greenside bunkers so ill try to avoid em i am so in!
i might switch to a 5 or 6 iron cause i was out on the range today i was smashin the ball really far one one of my shots i hit it so hard the head of my driver snapped off! and im serious! but im not so sure about chipping and putting but its just practice and i an soooooooooooooooo in!
i decided ona 5 iron.
doin it with my driver, pretty much a giant game of put put. i can hit a perfect down the middle 150-200 yard shot using all wrist, and i do bump in runs half the time with it anyways cuz im in extremely dry san antonio...and the driver is always second choice to the putter if your putter breaks in a tourney.
sounds way weird..i cant wait to try it!! going with my 6 or 7 iron i think
