Private Accounts

While you were sleeping, oob was working for you. oobgolf Addicts can now choose to set their accounts to "Private." A private account hides your details from everyone except your chosen friends. We've received multiple requests for this feature and it covers a variety of situations. Some people don't want the whole world seeing how well (or poor) they play. Some users just don't want their you-know-who (you may not actually know who, but this covers the old boss and the old lady) to see when they are playing golf.

When an account is private only your friends are able to view your stats, equipment, and scores. However private account scores and stats are excluded from leaderboards, groups, and other public areas of the site.

If you are already an Addict- you can go to "My Settings" and then "Profile" to change your account to a private one. If you're not an Addict, you need to subscribe first($12/yr). Also- we've been quietly adding new Addict stats, so if you checked it out before- you may want to see what else is now offered.

Other Stuff
We've received requests from users who don't want their friends to get an email for every round of golf they play. Maybe they don't want to make note of a particular round or maybe they're entering multiple past scorecards at once and don't want to send 10 emails to their friends at once. When entering a score- on the 3rd Score Type Tab you can uncheck the box that sends the email for that specific round.

You can also now remove a friend from your Friends page.

Enjoy- and continue to send us your ideas and requests. Pretty much everything we create is based on users suggestions.

Why not make the "send friends an email" unchecked by default? Having to remember to uncheck it everytime allows for more mistakes than having to remember to check it to send it out to friends.

@nfxgolf- This is a social site. Most people WANT to share their scores with their friends- that's why they are connected. We've just responded to the few who have approached us to have the option available who may want to keep just a few scores more private.

@nfxgolf, it looks like you don't have friends setup, so you don't need to worry about any emails going out.

@klangdon Me having friends setup really has nothing to do with the point of my suggestion. But users like you definitely dont make me want to attract my friends to use this site.

@kickntrue Fair enough.

@nfxgolf, i apologize, didn't mean anything by that. i was just clarifying what the feature does thinking maybe there was some confusion there.

Great feature addition. It's nice to have that privacy option now. Another stats suggestion. It would be helpful to be able to control whether Scores Entered and Miles Played are visible at the This Year or Overall level.

If someone is in the same group as me, but not necessarily a friend, can they see my scores? If I am in private mode, do my scores still post to the group?
7/30/09

klangdon says:
Currently if you are private none of your scores will post to a group, regardless of your friend status with other members. We are looking into the idea of connecting private groups with private accounts...

Can you add the ability to not email friends when entering live scores via cell phone?
7/31/09

klangdon says:
@Erincande - that make sense. until we get it added you can start your round as a practice type and it won't email. then when your done you can change it to standard on the computer.
