GolfCard Pro Response

Our Updated Response

We found out Saturday that GolfCard/Senygma has chosen to stop interacting with oobgolf. We had no prior knowledge of their decision. The surprise happened for us the same time as it did you, when we went to upgrade our iPhone app to the latest version. Unfortunately, this means you can no longer upload your scores from GolfCard into oobgolf.

We will sort things out over the weekend and update you guys on next steps on Monday. We're going to do everything we can for you guys, our loyal users, to continue having ways to enter scores via mobile into oobgolf.

Until we figure out a solution- you may want to check out mobile.oobgolf.com.

Thanks for the continued support!

Kevin and Andrew

cpjolicoeur says:
Oh man, this stinks. The ONLY reason I used GolfCard instead of other iPhone scorecard/GPS apps is the fact that it integrates with oobgolf.

Thanks for the heads up though. I'll be sure not to update to the newest version so I can continue to upload scores via golf card. Hope it gets sorted out and added back to the app quickly.

mudfish says:
I agree, there are better golf apps out there, but I continue to use GolfCard ONLY because it syncs with oob... Looks like I'll be using Golfshot GPS exclusively now since it is a far superior app, and then manually entering my score on oob when I get home...

cpjolicoeur says:
@mudfish,

agreed. I used both GolfShot and GolfCard for a while because I like GolfCards interface, but needed the oobgolf sync of GolfCard. After a while I just ditched GolfShot because I was sick of duplicating my input, but looks like I'll either be returning to GolfShot or sticking with the pre v2.0 version of GolfCard.

cjgiant says:
Yes, this is not a good thing, and I too will not be upgrading soon. I don't even use the GPS, which I think is where most of the newest version upgrades are focused on. Hopefully this can be sorted out to all of the OOB community's satisfaction.

hokie003 says:
I wish I hadn't upgraded, but I did send them an e-mail asking why it was removed. Hopefully the issue will be resolved. I'll keep the free oobgolf and ditch the paid app until then.

GolfSmith7 says:
wow that stinks. Like the others said the only reason I got golfcard was b/c of its link to oobgolf, real bummer.
7/10/10

cpjolicoeur says:
my guess is that they ditched it because of this new integration with USHandicap.com. If dropping oobgolf wasn't a requirement by USH, it would be nice to see GolfCard add back in the simple uploading feature

So if we don't ever upgrade can we continue to communicate with oobgolf? What about smartScorecard? That still works right?

MAQ says:
Wow that is too bad to hear, i really liked the interface. Does Teeshot Live still interface?

aaronm04 says:
Aside from the loss of oobgolf integration, the new site won't even provide you with a handicap index until you upgrade to a premium membership ($15 for "silver" for an undisclosed term) and join a local USGA Golf Club (my local Golfsmith has a "club"). Stupid. Then the new site doesn't even have my home course mapped. Sounds like Senygma didn't just stab us in the back, they turned the blade and poured in some salt.
7/11/10

klangdon says:
Teeshot live (sp error fixed, it was funny though) was bought by EA sports and dropped oobgolf as well. But smartscorecard does still support it. There are others as well like fore! and yourGolf. Oobgolf always stayed away from developing our own app out of respect for these partners, but at this point we are at least reconsidering that decision.
7/11/10

jeremyheslop says:
I am saddened as well. The new database is nothing like oob's. You even have to send them an email if you want something added or changed! I'm sure senygma is getting a referral fee for anyone signing up, but at least leave in oob support for those who want it!

nickmomrik says:
I couldn't believe this either when I upgraded earlier today. I've had several e-mails with the developer in the past and this is a very surprising move for GolfCard. I'm disappointed I didn't get any warning from them and an option wasn't left in the app to still upload to oobgolf. Pretty terrible if you ask me. I loved being able to use their course mapping app on my computer to be able to update the GPS data for any course as well.

bigROBdogg says:
I wish I hadn't updated GolfCard to the latest version. The interface is clunkier and no more oobGolf integration. Might start looking at other options.

mikka says:
I updated yesterday evening - and since then I wrote already +5 emails to Senygma and USHandicap.com because in this combination the whle app for me as a non-US / Canadian citizen is completely useless.
Till yesterday it was only possible for US / Canada citizens to subscribe to the good stats (like Puts, FIR, GIR etc) but USHandicap changed this - but for USD 15 per year it's not my kind of tea. Especially coz I can't use this with my own HCP I get here in Germany.

Not to mention that I have now to re-map (they call it "Traced Image") each and every course again - which is stupid coz mostly 90% of all German courses are not in the requested data-base.
Also, the app crashes now everytime I try to start the range finder of the fully mapped course.

I WANNA HAVE MY OLD APP WITH OOBGOLF BACK *sob sob*

Let's give it a try and see what will happen if I re-install the v1.x version - maybe there's a chance that the oobgolf.com cooperation is still working with this one...

After reading all the responses here (including my own) I'm pretty tempted to just. write my own app for oobgolf. I'm a web and mobile developer full time (mojotech.com is my consulting company).

It would be pretty easy to do the basic app (without gps integration) pretty easily and then if there is enough interest in the app I could always add the gps features.

Any thoughts? Folks interested in an "oobgolf specific" app that would be guaranteed to never change from oobgolf?

blitzzz says:
ushandicap is terrible. It has missing and wrong scorecards for all the courses I use to use here. No range finder for any of them either... Golfcard is useless for me now

cpjolicoeur, would love to have a basic app that downloaded course info with Golfcard's scorecard gui.... I was thinking of making my own for android as well

@blitzzz

Unfortunately, my Java chops aren't that up-to-date for the Android SDK stuff but that is a huge phone segment of the market as well

nickmomrik says:
I would love an oobgolf specific app that also worked with Addict stats. I've always had to go back and edit my rounds to add chipping stats. GPS and basic ability to record/submit scores and stats would be sweet. I'd even be willing to pay $10-20 for an app that did this. GolfCard had been perfect and was a steal at $7.99, but with the update it's terrible.

iPhone 4 here.

Really, really displeased with Senygma. I've also sent them several negative emails to them. It really sucks what they have done. I wish I could develop an app to replace it, but I am no programmer. The best I can offer is my financial support, in the form of a purchase, to whomever does develop one.

i woke up this morning to find that golfcard was updated for my android phone. I was like "sweet!"

@mikka

yes, the old versions of GolfCard still support uploading to oobgolf.
7/11/10

sjduffers says:
I too sent an email to Senygma expressing my "displeasure" (to put it mildly) at the removal of the support of oobgolf. Not only that, but there are quite a few problems with the integration with the other provider too. The biggest is that to get anything useful out of it (i.e. relatively basic stats that have nowhere near the depth of oobgolf), one still has to fork $14.95. The free version just gives you an average of FIR and GIR over the last 20 games, that's it. Very lame. And the traced images are a whole another can of worms...
7/11/10

sjduffers says:
One more thing: if Senygma does not backtrack and add back support for oobgolf, can anyone think of developing a tool that would take a file exported from Golfcard and import it into oobgolf, (eg Text email with CSV data)?
7/11/10

stato says:
Is there any chance of Oobgolf being the brilliant people they are and writing a quick converter that takes the email output from Golfcard and uses it as data entry for the site. I love oobgolf and would become a paid up addict if there was this sort of email score entry option

I upgraded to GolfCard on my Droid, does anyone know how to go back to 1.14 ?????
7/11/10

ponderous says:
I have a moto droid, and thankfully I did not install the "upgrade". I'll continue to use the old version as long as I can... or until another option presents itself.

USHandicap.com is a steaming pile of horse whooey, and there's no way I'll be using it as long as a quality service like oobgolf is available.
7/11/10

cpjolicoeur says:
writing an importer from the new golfcard for oobgolf should be fairly simple. but since I'm not going to upgrade to the new version I'd need someone to send me an export file so I can write the conversion/upload app

@sjduffers, my guess is the Senygma is now getting a cut of ever new user they can get to sign up for uSHandicap.com. They are probably getting a revenue cut since users pretty much have to fork over $15 for anything useful on that site.

Pretty crappy move on their part. If thy weren't happy with the revenue they were making on the app from the app store, they should have just raised their price to be more in line with the other golf gps apps instead of pulling this crap without notice.

bplewis24 says:
I am extremely upset over this. I've sent two emails to senygma so far. I have been one of their most outspoken supporters on The Sand Trap forums and to people in general during golf rounds. It's not simply that they removed support for oob, but the way they did it: apparently never gave word to oob that it was coming, and they have been working on this update for at least 4-6 months that I can remember, and never hinted at anything like this.

cpjolicoeur, I can assure you that me and many other people would be willing to support an app that ties into oob golf. If you look at the user reviews in the Android Marketplace for the update, most people are giving it 1 star now. But if you really want to supplant Golfcard for the oob contingent, you would have to do the following:

1) Support Android and iOS.
2) Provide the same amount of features as Golfcard did, so it doesn't feel like a downgrade. Integrating it with Addict stat tracking tools would be awesome.
7/11/10

bplewis24 says:
Guys, it's imperative that we do NOT create accounts at ushandicap.com. Otherwise GolfCard will never change this, even though I'm sure there is little chance that they will anyway.

Just an FYI as to the level of frustration this has caused:

I sent my first email off this morning and got a response from Mike at senygma within an hour.

I just send my 2nd message off about an hour ago and this time I received an automated response. They are being flooded with frustrated customers right now. The email also states that people who do NOT upgrade will no longer have the ability to "upload" scores or download any more courses. I uploaded a score from a round a few hours ago so I don't think the first one is true...not sure about downloading more courses though.

This news really pisses me off. I love the OBO functionality of this app and now they have bent us over with no warning. So now my question is do I delete this app or do I hope all the e mails gets it fixed? I guess I should delete it no matter what for the dirty tactics they used doing this. If I do delete what is the best app to take its place?

cpjolicoeur says:
bplewis24 is right bi can't download new courses anymore. the app throws an XML parse error.

this is infuriating. as a software developer, one of the first things you learn jato not break backwards compatibilty with older versions of your app if you don't need to. on this case, Senygma definitely had no reason to change the course XML download format for pre-v2.0 users. I haven't tried the upload functionality but I am crossing my fingers that I can still upload new scores for courses that I have already downloaded.

I'm definitely going to begin coding an oobgolf app when I'm done the current iPhone project I'm working on for a client.
7/11/10

cpjolicoeur says:
I can verify that uploading new scores still works as I just tried it. You definitely can't search for and download new courses though.

dvanderschuere says:
Another issue with the new version is that the only way to input player handicap indexes is through USHandicap. I have a GHIN through another club and don't need or want to pay for an upgrade to do that. Really wish I hadn't upgraded the golf add app. I'm going to complain to the authors.

Josh says:
I have 2 kids now so I seem to never get to play anymore, but if someone had a well done oob integrated app, I'd sure buy it. Honestly for me speed of entry is key, it's super annoying to non-oobers when you are mucking with your mobile phone during a round. It also makes it hard for me to convince them that they should be using oob if I'm taking forever to enter stuff.

I have version 1.15.3 and this still works. I just uploaded a round tonight. This must be a part of Version 2.0 or something.

I hope we convince them to change this. Everyone needs to write support.
Use this if it helps, simple cut and paste into your email:

Email: support@senygma.com

To whom it may concern:
There is significant user community that uses GolfCard Pro mainly for it's interface to "Oobgolf". The latest version of GolfCard does not support "Oobgolf". We hope this is just an oversight and will be corrected soon. Without this functionality, many more users, myself included, will be forced to use another golf application on our mobile devices.
Sincerely,

(Member of the Oobgolf community)

sjduffers says:
@Johnstaffer - You are right, and that's probably why they blindsided oobgolf. But, in the process, they managed to piss off a fairly substantial part of their user base, typically not a good move.
7/11/10

sjduffers says:
@cpjolicoeur - I not only upgraded to Golfcard 2.0, but I also spent the $14.95 at USHandicap.com. :-( Other than the official handicap index, the money is not well spent at all: the stats are not worth it; oobgolf, even in its non-addict format is much more useful. Besides, it looks like the number of courses with GPS markers (not to say anything about traced images) is much less over there than here. I do agree with you that Senygma probably did it to get a revenue share, but I too think that it was a pretty bad business decision, especially without consulting with either oobgolf or the community of Golfcard users.

Anyway, I can forward you an email generated by Golfcard 2.0, if you like. I would think that the text/CSV format is probably easier to deal with than the HTML output, but let me know, and please PM me your email address, unless you want a copy/paste in a PM. Thanks a bunch!

What I'll miss most about GolfCard is the single screen (in text) that listed ALL of the GPS distances pertinent to a given hole. I find this style not only quick and easy to get the information I need over looking at a map, but it seemed to be less of a drain on battery life as well. I'd love to see any new app (android for me) have this option/style.

As things stand now I'll probably try out SkyDroid as it seems to be the closest to what I'm looking for...

This form letter looks good - but IMHO should also contain the information that USHandicap.com is useless for for people outside of the USA.

Actually, I think nobody @ Senygma was checking what will happen to the European / Asian / African customers after the update respectively checked USHandicap.com's website correctly - bad bad research.

BTW:
I suggest that you DO NOT update the mapping software GolfCardMGR to v2.x coz this now works also only with USHandicap.com and no longer w/ oobgolf.com

pretty disgusted that they removed oobgolf support. I told many golfers about this app and obbgolf's website while playing on the courses. Previously used yourgolf for scoring and skydroid for the GPS, but liked having a program that had both together. Feel like i wasted $10.00 on Golfcard now. Skydroid mentions on their website that they have a score card feature coming soon, so hopefully it will integrate with oobgolf!!!

@John --

We do not expect it for free; we have all PAID for Golfcard. We expect the functionality not to be crippled after they have our money and we downloaded the app. It's the same thing as buying a car and then a year later the manufacturer deciding you don't get to have your A/C anymore. You'd be more than a bit pissed off. We paid for a certain degree of functionality. Why would we sign up for UShandicap when it's an inferior product to oobgolf? Terrible decision on all fronts by the makers of Golfcard.
7/12/10

hokie003 says:
I can understand the business decision on Senygma's part for switching stat tracking websites. I just wish someone knew about it. I was looking forward to the update since their website made it seem like all of the old functions would still be there with an improved rangefinder. They even had a flashy banner on the top that said "get it now before the price increase". That to me is a little misleading, I expected the same app with all the old functionality that had some new features. Obviously they had some concerns about switching websites so they tried to make the transition as seamless as possible. "All you have to do is sign up at US handicap and manually take all of your rounds and upload them from your phone". Now why would I want to waste hours of my day (assuming the transition is quick with no problems) uploading everything to US handicap just so they may or may not make a few bucks off of it? I'm happy with oobgolf and will continue using it regardless.

your comment about complaining makes no sense. We all DID PAY for GolfCard which included oobgolf functionality. After we paid for the product, they removed functionality that we specifically paid for. I don't understand what is hard for you to grasp about the complaints in that case. Plus, several of us DO pay oobgolf for the addict add-on.

If anyone has any suggestions for how I can reinstall version 1.x (unfortunately I had upgraded to 2.0 already), it would be appreciated. Like many here, I am pretty angry that the new version removed so much functionality from a product that I had already paid for. I also think it would be a good idea to do our best to publicize this issue. The best way to receive a positive response from Senygma (the software developer) is to generate bad press for them. Based on the comments now posted on the Android Marketplace, they aren't going to sell many new copies of Golfcard, and they will be a one star app soon. But I am also in the process of emailing whatever sites I can find that review Android apps to let them know about the fiasco that has been created. In particular, I have focused on the reviewers cited on the Golfcard home page, suggesting that they no longer endorse what's now an inferior product.

If oobGolf is owned by skygolf, I would think the solution would be simple. The days of being able to sell a seperate hardware based device for something as simple as GPS and tracking a round of golf, are coming to an end. Skygolf needs to take the hop into the smartphone world eventually and this looks like the perfect time so that they can protect their investment.

Also, if this does go in the "Make a new app" direction.

- Ease of entry is important. Preferrable one click shot marking.
- Caching maps is vitally important. Not all of us have a data connection on the course.
- Distance per club tracking would be wonderful.

My two cents.

I just sent a complaint to Senygma... here's the reply:

To make GolfCard the best product possible, our goal is to have partnerships with the best golf companies in the world, to provide the best mobile golfing tool. We realize some customers will not be happy with this initially, but your score data and range finder data will not be lost.
USHandicap is a world wide company, and all you need is a free account to continue to use all the features GolfCard used to have.
All the scores and range finder data in GolfCard can easily be upload to USHandicap.

The new version of GolfCard has all the same features as the previous version, plus more. So our promise has never been broken that the upgrade was free for all existing features.
7/12/10

Johnstaffer says:
No, I do not work for golf card. Just a techie that is tired of people that want everything for free forever. Golfcard did not charge for the upgrade (which is silly). And now they are the bad guys for giving you more stuff for free.
7/12/10

cpjolicoeur says:
@Johnstaffer,

No one is wanting anything for free. GolfCard was never free, its was $7.99 to purchase it.

The issue we have is that they removed existing functionality that was the basis for some of us purchasing the app in the first place. Also, there was no notice ahead of time that upgrading would break the oobgolf features, so some/many users upgraded expecting new features and instead were greeted with missing/removed features.

That is the complaint - it has nothing to do with the price of the product.

Sorry... but that's crap.
USHandicap is for sure not a WORLD WIDE COMPANY - otherwise it would offer their full service (= the Premium Membership shit) "out of the box" for everyone outside of USA and Canada.
They (USHandicap) updated their website / payment options accordingly AFTER I -from Germany- informed them that oonly 2 countries (= USA & Canada) are able to make any payments.
Also, you need a club in the USA to have full service (handicap etc) as far as I understand this "service".
How shall I here in Germany become a member of a golf club in the States?!?
7/12/10

mikka says:
@ Johnstaffer
Sorry - wrong. GolfCard -the App I have purchased- offers NOT more stuff for FREE.
They only offer a "connection" / option to use a service which costs money - but is mostly useless outside of the USA.

Sorry, but I got the feeling nobody reads the "requirements" to get the full service / usage of the App itself in combination with any website...

JohnStaffer couldn't be any more unreasonable. There are a few things he needs to understand:
1) We all paid $8-10 for GolfCard more than likely, and with the understanding that it integrates with oobgolf.
2) The new update does not interface with oobgolf, and we have no way to download any more courses unless we upgrade to the newer version that interfaces with a website that has crippled functionality with less database information access.
3) Any upgrade should not cripple past functionality, which is what this has done. If they want us to interface with a new site, they should Grandfather in all of the previous owners who prefer oobgolf.
4) They promised us any upgrades would be free. However, they should at least provide the option for those of us who prefer to stick with oobgolf to pay a small amount ($2-5?) to continue to interface with oobgolf.

In their endeavor for more cash they have lost sight of the consumer. You NEVER turn your back on the consumer as a rule of thumb in business. I have over 85 scores uploaded into oobgolf, and there's no way I'm going to a new site with LESS functionality which is what they are forcing me to do, and tried to do so in an underhanded fashion.

Well, tried out the Pro upgrade on a back nine, I was actually able to use the GPS for the whole 9 holes because it has an option to stay on - and still save battery. Prior to this I was only using it for oobgolf score updates. I even tried the US Handicap.com, but that site is totally useless! Uploading 9 hole courses completely messes things up, the date for past rounds doesn't get uploaded, and lots of buggy stuff (stats not being uploaded, all scores turning to 0, etc.). Gave it a 1 star on Android market asking for oobgolf back. I'd much rather they charge $4 for an upgrade to the PRO version than try to switch us over to ushandicap and get money from them. This is really a bad, bad business decision. Hope they can back out of whatever they signed with ushandicap - and make a correct decision.

grumpy28 says:
It too I'm very disappointed in the USHandycrap. I don't mind paying a nominal fee to get features (like I paid OOB). But the site needs to work. I think the developers read the "Idiots Guide to Annoying Web Design" They also constantly remind you of the features you are missing by not paying them. The extra screens are very annoying. Additionally my uploads did not work. It does not upload the date the round was played but rather attaches the date you upload. And some how it misses holes so on one round I shot a 33!

Doubt we'll get you guys back but I can always hope.

Like others have said, the only reason I purchased GolfCard was for integration with oob. I do have an account with ushandicaps (aka golfq, aka Stracka) and have used them in the past, but I choose to post my scores using oob.
I played yesterday and figured since I do have an account with ushandicaps, I would try out the upload feature. First, the course wasn't listed, and the name of the particular course I played was different than oob (oob has it listed correctly).
After the round was over and I uploaded the score, everything appeared to have completed successfully. When I checked my score on ushandicaps from home, I saw my score that posted for a full round of 18..... a seven! Not the 82 that I had on my phone, but a 7. This is how it shaped up for me.
These were the correct stats that uploaded to ushandicaps.
Club from tee - correct on 13/18 holes
Distance from tee - 18/18
Score - 2/18
Fairways hit - 1/18
First putt distance - 10/18
putts - 18/18
Sand shots - 0/18
Penalties - 0/18

tennesseeboy says:
This really sucks. I have used golfcard and oob for two years now. The decision to drop oob integration seems dumb. I wonder if oob had anything to do with this due to the terms of use for their API. In my opinion, golfcard was violating these terms in two ways. The app stores course info downloaded from oob and because it keeps stats and produces reports it offer services that compete with oob. You can read the terms of use by clicking the Developer API at the bottom of the page. Maybe Senygma was afraid they would be sued.
7/12/10

tennesseeboy says:
One more thing. By working with another service, golfcard is violating the oob terms of use in a third way as oob requires "EXCLUSIVE score storage in oobgolf system". Also senygma can't change the way the old version functions if you don't upgrade. So if the old version now throws errors when doing a course lookup it is because oob stopped allowing the app to call their API. I'm guessing oob is blocking the Tee Details api for GolfCard users.

mdbuschsr says:
I bought Golfcard less than a month ago ONLY because it integrates with OOB. I have only recently started playing again, let alone tracking scores, handicap, etc. The loss of this integration has eliminated the usefulness of the app for me. With the version that I purchased, I now cannot use the app at all unless I "upgrade" it, and sign up at ushandicap, and then I can only get data I want if I spend even more money. I sent a request for a refund that I expect to be ignored. Lastly, to the JACKTARD that made some statement about reading the user agreement... If I read the user agreement to every piece of software I ever used, I would never do anything else.
7/12/10

joonhlee2001 says:
Hm...this brings up an interesting question. Who owns the course gps marks that was on the GolfCard / oobgolf system? Now the new GolfCard is allowing the backed up course data (gps points) to be uploaded to USHandicap via the GolfCard manager software. Isn't that like stealing some of oobgolf's course data?

I'm as upset as the rest of you guys about this. I didn't update, but I can't add new courses. So I'm trying to find a new GPS app for my droid. Anyone hear of anything good?
Here's what I liked about the golfcard
1) GPS capabilities
2) Stat tracking and scorecard in the same app
3) Easy one click on the map to see distance to and from a point
4) The upload factor. Not necessarily to OOB, although this site is awesome, but some kind of data backup. Golfcard was awesome but it was buggy and I lost the data a couple times.

So any options? Anyone try golflogix or skydroid?

tennesseeboy says:
@mschad - Yes, I am speculating like half the other post on this issue. I am pretty sure about the course lookup being broken. I have the old version and it will not download courses from OOB. I'm a software developer and the XML error is probably because OOB is not allowing the golfcard app to call the API. OOB has a right to do that because golfcard is clearly violating the terms of agreement but as an OOB customer that makes me mad. I'm just saying there might be more to this story than Senygma doing something stupid just to make their customers mad.

GolfSmith7 says:
Heck even if they would charge another 4 or 5 dollars for an Oob feature I would do it but they have left us no option.

tennesseeboy says:
@mdbuschsr - I am the JACKTARD that made the statement about reading the user agreement. I did not say you should read the developer API agreement. Unless you are the developer that wrote Golfcard and made it work with ooggolf. The point is GolfCard is (make that was) great is it does things not other apps do. Those things violate the OOB developer API terms of use. Maybe the developers of the other apps read the agreement and choose not to integrate with OOB because they could not agree to the terms that Senygma ignored.

I do want to say this in oobgolf's defense. I looked at their API over a year ago, the terms of use were clearly stated then and have not changed. They have every right to limit how this API is used.

I had a fairly lengthy and quite civil email exchange with Michael at sengyma. He made no mention of any conflict with oobgolf, legal or otherwise. He did claim, however, that he faced legal action from the USGA for associating with oobgolf... as oobgolf calculates handicap and the USGA claims that formula as their copyrighted property.

His argument sounds like BS to me (for several reasons), but I thought I'd pass it along and let y'all decide for yourselves.

I own both smartSCORECARD+ and Golfcard for my iPhone. Even before this debacle with Golfcard, I've always used smartSCORECARD+ for the main reason that it loads your score LIVE into the "Live Rounds" on oobgolf. Golfcard never supported the "Live Rounds" feature that is so unique to oobgolf. It's a simple app that works. I don't need a GPS rangefinder on my phone that eats battery life (I use a laser rangefinder), and I don't need to keep stats within the app (that's what oobgolf is for).

Turn the screen to the left, and it shows everyone's score. Turn the screen to the right, and it shows your score with stats. For non oobers that you are keeping score for, you have the option to email them the scorecard right from the app. When I bought it, it was $4.99. It's .99 cents now. Give it a whirl, if you don't like it or it's too simple, then it only set you back .99.

chuck.han, I'll email you with a simple suggestion to improve the app. Take it from someone that has logged in 700 rounds on oob!

GolfCard was my favorite app on the Droid. I updated without reading the comments first (yep, I know, dumb). Now it doesnt work AT ALL. The feature to upload your old courses isnt yet implemented on android (thanks for THAT), so I tried to remark courses in GolfCardMgr (since my courses arent on USG). Remarked a course that I had PREVIOUSLY marked in oob... and when I try to download it, it fails. So now I have an app that I cant use for ANYTHING... cant score, cant rangefind. It was tough, but I read pratically every singe post on this becuase like most of you, the only reason I bought ScoreCard was because of the integreation with OOB. There is a simple answer although I don't think the solution is simple, which is for OOB to make their own app. I don't care for the GPS because I have a laser range finder, but I love keeping score and stats. I would pay $10 - $20 for the app, no problem. This is simple economics. OOB, earn so money from your loyal customer base. I am sure we would are all stand in line with our cash.

The claim that the USGA asserts copyright or any ownership of its handicap formula is completely bogus. They probably have a trademark, so you cannot claim to be providing a "USGA handicap," but you would be 100% in the clear to report a "handicap" that uses their formula. There is no form of IP protection anywhere in the world that would protect their formula in any way. The form email they respond to complaints with is basically a lie. Really? All the features of GolfCard are still there? Then why can't I find the "upload to oobgolf" button? I'd be amused, but I'm out $10 for software I got to try twice before the one feature I cared about was clawed back.

@parkernick: that's ONLY true if you want to use the handicap in a competition or need an official handicap. I only track mine for comparison and informal use. There's nothing preventing you from figuring your own using their formula.

Some good news: I contacted Apple and requested a refund. I just got an email that they're refunding my purchase and will investigate the situation. If you purchased it recently, I'd suggest you complain and request a refund (if you feel, as I do, that the breaking of this feature makes the App unsuitable for you) via www.apple.com/support/itunes/ -- under App Store and iBooks, select the "Email Us" button and use "This application did not function as expected" for the issue.

I think it's important to point out that the developer advertised the the oobgolf support on their web page AND in the iTunes description, that their dropping it was therefore misrepresentation, and this was why you purchased the App.

This just sucks. I first noticed something was wrong when someone deleted both courses from our CC and entered in incorrect ranges for the wrong courses and screwed the whole thing up. I just tried to reenter the correct information on US Handicaps site twice, and both times these idiots deleted it and kept the incorrect info. All my markers that I've taken 2 hours to enter 3 different times, gone. This is a joke. They took a really cool app that worked just fine and totally screwed it up. Basically it looks like they just sold out. Anyone else up for developing our own better version and keeping it on oobgolf? Let me know. I can raise the capital to do this in a heartbeat. I agree, I'm pretty disappointed. I was super excited for this new release because the tracing would be great for the courses where the Google Maps are still poor. I went through and marked every course that I play on a regular basis and had them uploaded. Then after updating the software I wanted to go in and trace some of these courses, but the markers weren't there. They weren't there and I couldn't update them because I did not have every course saved to my phone. I even put markers on a couple courses in Destin, where I play once a year. Now I have to redo everything and then trace the holes myself to get the trace functionality. Then on top of it all they do not even use oobgolf.com which is ridiculous. Their free services are far superior to even the pay services offered at the ushandicap site.

nc66uky says:
The people who are acting like we are angry for no reason it's like if we had an app that we loved that uploaded to facebook and then the update loaded you to friendster. It's similar, but not the same. I even had all of my friends sign up for oobgolf, even ones that rarely use the internet. I loaded their names into the app and when I play with them I uploaded scores for them. Who cares if the oobgolf handicaps are official, I'm almost a 30 handicap, not trying to join the PGA just want to enjoy golf. It's so disappointing because when I purchased the software they advertised that it has a one time fee NEVER pay for updates, but now in order to get the same functionality as before you are required to pay. I would have paid for oobgolf because I know I like the site, but will NOT pay for the other site.

I sent Apple this email via the link advised in this thread.:

I think it's important to point out that the developer advertised oobgolf.com support on their web page AND in the iTunes description and that their dropping it is misrepresentation. Oobgolf suport was my main reason for purchasing this app.

The developers have totally changed the app, and now require a subscription fee for the services advertised earlier as free. They have crippled the app for anyone not paying a third party site for a membership. For those not upgrading, the developers have actually crippled the old version so it also no longer will operate as sold!

The app, ScoreCard Pro has dropped approximately two stars in the past week because users updated their versions and lost use of the program without notice from developers.

A refund is in order and an investigation into the developers methods needs to be performed. Almost ALL users are extremely upset with the developers for this BAIR AND SWITCH GIMMICK

Apple really needs to crack down on sock-puppet reviewers. Total review right now is 2-1/2 stars. If you have the iOS version, go give it a 1-star review like it deserves.

Sengyma pissed me off by doing that big time. I've just got oobGolf for iPhone and ir SUCKS. So slow, spent ages adding my fave courses only to find it had added some other random ones. Smartscorecard crashes and only syncs score to oob half the time. Basically, they all suck. oobgolf has to try much harder with it;s own app.

And who do you have to kill to get GPS ranging/tee distance thrown in?

Fore looks good but £17 for a Golf app??

Same BS response from Apple - "all sales are final". Apple puts 5-6 days per app into their "release" process under some marketing-hype false pretense of having some sort of "quality control", only to churn out the same worthless trash that can be had for free on other platforms. Crap software, and Senygma backs up that presumption quite strongly by having their employees post bogus 5-star reviews for their malware.

I followed up Apple's response with a mention of people here saying they'd got a refund. The "All sales are final" changed to "refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis" (followed by more form-letter crap about "thanks for your feedback"). So I guess everybody should at least try. I dunno what about my "case" is different from Charmag's or Zeg's. I've had Golf Card for probably 60 days - maybe that's too long. I also don't buy many apps so maybe I'm not a big enough customer.

This *REALLY* stinks! I'm heading to Myrtle Beach to play Wicked Stick this week, so I upgraded my app without noticing the changes. I tried downloading the course from USH site and there is NO information for the course. I can't even download TEE and GREEN markers. What a POS this upgrade is! Is it possible to remove the upgrade and go back to the previous version (I'm on a droid)? I loved the software before the upgrade - now it seems like it will be useless to me!

I've requested a refund. I am FURIOUS!

As a non US user (Australia) alone, this renders golfcard next to useless. Not to mention all my scores are already ON oobgolf!

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to enter handicaps (so it will calculate stableford points) without signing up for usga handicap stuff?

Apple denied me a refund. I've requested they look further into the matter to see if there has been any consistency to complaints regarding this app.

Hopefully they'll reprimand the bums for such mediocre customer service. Doubtful, but one can hope.

Until then, it's the oobgolf mobile app for me. I painstakingly entered all my local courses just so I could use golfcard, what a waste of time!

Have to say that this golfcard is completely useless. Us handicap, try to think out of the box and try usign this app ouside US. My god what a waste of money and poor SW development, management and customer service from that company! Hopefully OOB you can fine tune your iphone app to a bit better shape and we are all happy family again :)

For those lamenting about wishing you had not upgraded...forget that wish. I wait for comments to develope before upgrading any of my android apps. Seeing this as very bad I did not upgrade. BUT, I am experiencing an "XML parse error" when I attempt to download a course using my "OLD VERSION" OOBGolf course button. So, upgrade -or- not the result is the same. It doesn't work anymore. GolfCards use of oobgolf is broken with no support to keep even what was working operational.
