Addict Giveaway: Powerbilt AirForce One Hybrid Combo Irons
By Kickntrue on 1/31/11
All oobgolf Addicts will have an automatic chance to win a $499 set of PowerBilt AirForce One Hybrid Combo Irons. The giveaway ends March 6, 2011 and a winner will be announced the following week.

So to recap- you join Addict for $9.95 a year (wow, that's cheap), and you get a ton of new stats to track, have the ability to edit courses, support oobgolf and have a chance to win exclusive gear. Where is the downside?

From PowerBilt:
When a golfer strikes a golf ball, the goal is to compress the face of the club. The problem most golfers experience, and they don't know this, is, most golfers can not compress the face of the club because golf clubs are built to be tested at 110 MPH, per U.S.G.A. protocol. If a golfer does not swing his driver at 110 MPH, he can not compress the face of the club and does not experience the Trampoline Effect.

By building a golf club with a thin face, and by removing the internal metal bracing that most manufacturers use to prevent the face from caving in, every golfer, no matter their swing speed, can now compress the face of the club and get the maximum Trampoline Effect, the amount of time it takes the club face to compress and spring back to its original form.
I'll cut to the chase. Sure- PowerBilt isn't necessarily a sexy name we think of in the golf iron world- but it's a company with deep golf history and a knack for innovation. I've hit these clubs- and here's the thing- they CRUSH the ball. I've said that on this site before (FULL REVIEW HERE)- and I'll say it again- if distance is something you're looking to improve on- these clubs are definitely worth looking at. The long irons- filled with PowerBilt's patented Nitrogen chamber really does launch the ball. But don't just take my word for it- PowerBilt's AirForce One irons recently were named to GolfDigest's 2011 Hot List for game improvement irons. Quite a complement for sure!

My first set of clubs were PowerBilts - a kid's starter set (1 & 3 Woods and 3,5,7,9 irons with putter & a tartan colored canvas bag). Very jaunty looking for 1961.

It would complete the circle if 50 years later I were to win a new set of PowerBilts!
