Spring is Coming!!!
From where we sit in mild South Texas, signs of Spring have been showing up for a couple of weeks. As we get more and more days peeking into the 70s, grass is greening up, trees are starting to bud, and golfers are taking to the courses in ever-increasing numbers. I know for many of you, looking out your windows at snow on the ground, that Spring might seem far, far away, but it's really not. Those first few acceptable or even marginal golf days are not that far away.
But good golf might be. Most of you probably have not been swinging a golf club in your basement or garage regularly. Or putting on your indoor putting carpet. Or even stretching and exercising so that you'll be ready. The good news is that it's not too late. There are many things you can still do to "get golf ready" for that breakout practice session or first round of the season. Here are some of my suggestions:

[ comments ] Terry, I am SO glad I live in Central Texas, where I can play or practice almost EVERY day! I remember when I first started playing golf in Minot ND, when October hit golf season was over until April. I hated that! 2/15/13

I was hoping my season would open mid-March but with the recent weather it will probably be April. I guess that will give me more time to get into golf shape as I've been trying harder this year to be ready day one. 2/15/13
I've been able to start hitting balls outside at my house and at the range for a few weeks now, yesterday I got to play 9 holes! If Hogan's 5 lessons is anyone's study guide, I recommend Jimmy Ballard's "How to perfect your golf swing" For me, he takes Hogan's lessons and breaks them down into easy to incorporate moves. I'm still not quite where I want to be but I feel confident that this is going to help me improve. 2/16/13
