Mississippi National is a 36-hole facility that is well-known for some dramatic elevation changes. Established in 1986, the Lowlands 18 is traditional style with rolling fairways and large greens playing against the bluffs.
Nine holes of the Highlands opened in 1990 with the other nine completed in 1999, and features views from high above the Hiawatha Valley into the Mississippi River bottoms and surrounding valleys. Most golfers consider the 17th as the signature hole, featuring a 150-foot drop from tee-to-green.
Mississippi National has hosted the PGA of America's Minnesota Section championship, as well as USGA qualifying for the U.S. Senior Open and the U.S. Amateur.

Beautiful Scenery. I only played the Lowlands and was unimpressed (though the finishing hole is very nice). I hear the Highlands is the exceptional 18 to play. Hope to get there for that sometime soon.

The Highlands course

Very beautiful course but the greens could use some work. Play the lowlands the highlands have to many gimmicky holes but are fun if you want to play some unique holes..

First time I've played the Lowlands. Nice lay out. some of the holes are hard to figure out from the tee. Will be easier the next time I play it.

The Highlands course was a lot of fun, and definitely a break from the norm. There are several shots that drop over a hundred feet (holes 10 and 17) and plenty of other good holes. Recommended if you are getting bored with the same old golf holes.
