Rocky Spring Golf Course

    Public
Chambersburg, Pennsylvania - 717.264.7742
rockyspringgc.com

Founded in 1963, Rocky Springs became the primary golf course for the U.S. Army stationed at the Letterkenny Army Depot. After many years of the course being strictly private it is now run by C.V. Golf, Inc. Managed by John & Denise McDowell

This very nice 9 hole course allows fo you to play each hole twice from a different tee location in order to allow for a 18 hole course. Even though this is a great starter course it will also challange the greatest of golfers.

Rocky Spring is a fun little 9 hole course located on the Letterkenny Army Depot. It was orginionally built for the military folk, but has opened to the public in the last 7 or 8 years.

They do their best to make the 9 holes as enjoyable as possible, and have been doing what they can to add to the course. It is as wide open as a course could ever be and is a great place to learn and work on your game. That said, it is not a gimmie, although for a good golfer it can be a scoring delight. When the staff let's the rough grow out, it can be very fair and will punish you for bad shots.

The round is highlighted by a couple nice holes, including #2 which is a VERY short par 4 (about 285 yards). For years this has been a launching pad for people trying to drive the green. Last season, a small pond was installed in front of the green, which adds to the fun. Reaching in 1 has been reduced to tricky shots and luck.

The staff also does a good job to make the holes as different as possible from the front 9 to the back 9, featureing a couple holes with different tee boxes that completely change the holes. Number 5/13 even changes from a par 4, to a smooth downhill par 5.

I certainly couldn't recommend a trip to Chambersburg to play Rocky Spring, and you could find much prettier golf destinations even locally- but it's worth the round if you're there or learning the game. They do a good job with what they have to work with- and they are showing efforts to improve it.
