1700 Country Club Dr
Plano, TX 75074-3647, United States
Los Rios Country Club in Plano is where the great traditions of golf are blended with the wonders of modern country club living.
The golf course at Los Rios has an outstanding history in the Dallas area having been designed in 1974 by Texas golf legend Don January. The traditional layout spreads over 220 acres and features tree-lined fairways and generous sized Bermuda greens. The natural terrain for this 6,507 yard, par-71 course is studded with Live Oak trees and etched by the waters of a meandering creek that comes into play on 14 of 18 holes. Eight glistening ponds are found throughout the course, adding an additional test for golfers. The trees narrow the fairways providing you with an unforgettable round that challenges your skills.

This course has a storied history from the days when the Dallas Cowboys were America's Team. At one time this was the about the only course - and the only country club - in the far north, and newly developing, area. Maybe I am fuzzy on the details, but according to local clubhouse lore, Roger Staubach shot JR Ewing on the infamous par 3 17th over a welched bet, or a dry hole, or something like that. Lee Trevino and Bobby Jones rounded out that now legendary foursome. All kidding aside, this was evidently the place to be - and to gamble, golf, and swear - in it's prime. Let's be honest: that prime was some years ago. The warts of this experience are visible, and smellable. But most of the really negative comments you will find are from a transitional period, and those points have been addressed. This course is improving by the moment, apparently has a top-notch grounds crew that is playing a big hand in said improvement, and has the sweetest cart girl around. What it does not have is 7200 yards worth of perfect fairways and a freshly remodeled clubhouse with expensive granite sinks in the men's locker room. Do you need granite sinks? Then you shouldn't play here. If you can appreciate a more classic approach to golf that will take you back to the courses your Dad dragged you to in the 70's or 80's, then come on out. This course may just be doing everything right to overcome the inexorable fate of having of 20,000 tons of poop just off the Fourth Fairway. Then again: Aren't we all?

Decent course but the stench from whatever is next door to the 4th and 7th holes is ungodly. Very basic course but they try to keep it in decent shape plus they're a friendly bunch of folks.
