Just keep in mind that if you're reading a review of this course from before summer 2012, it is about The Shores. Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club is on the same patch of land, but it's under new management and has had a complete renovation and some holes were redesigned.
Layout: really fun. Every hole had something interesting about it. Not many vanilla straightaway holes. Everything had some risk/reward to it. Front nine is through the neighborhood and back nine plays by the lake. Challenging course but nothing unfair or tricked up.
Facilities: very nice driving range, clubhouse is pretty basic, restaurant is TERRIFIC. Saw the cart girl probably 4-5 times over the course of the round. People are friendly.
Conditions: early season conditions but overall everything seemed well maintained. A couple bunkers didn't have enough loose sand on top and you hit clay about 1-1.5" deep but that could've been because of high winds. Will get much tougher when the native areas grow in.
Price: I felt like $75 for a weekend rate for non-HOA residents was a little high, but a membership only costs about $200 per month so I think they're trying to encourage people to be members and discourage daily play from the riff-raff. They clearly don't want this place to be like a typical muni. Not a good enough value to play too often, but fun enough to justify $75 a few times per year.
I'd recommend this course but encourage you to wait until everything greens up in mid-late spring.
