Sault Ste Marie Golf ClubCanada - Sault Ste Marie, ON - (705)759-5133 www.saultgolfclub.com Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club is a private facility with over 500 adult members and 100 juniors. It was established in 1919 making it one of the oldest courses in Ontario. The architect of the original 9 holes was George Cummings, known in some circles as the Dean of Canadian professional golf. He won the 1908 Canadian Open and was the architect of many fine courses throughout Ontario. In 1952 a second nine holes was added by the famous architect Stanley Thompson. He needs no introduction as his accomplishments include St George's in Toronto, Cape Breton Highlands in Nova Scotia and many other famous courses that consistently make the top 50 in Canada. Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club was one of the last courses he had a hand in. More recently the club has engaged Les Furber, a well known and accomplished architect from western Canada. The club has hosted many tournaments over the years, most notable recently include two Canadian Professional Tour events. The first, the 1999 Ontario Heritage Classic was won by Aaron Olberhoiser, now a PGA tour player. The second was the 2003 Northern Ontario Open was won by Mario Tiziani, also now a PGA tour professional. Course Details
