Monterey Country ClubBlue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania - 717 794-2809 www.montereycountryclub.net American Presidents Wilson, Coolidge and Eisenhower played the Monterey Country Club course which is at foot of 1,720 Mt. Dunlap and 1,365 Monterey Peak in one of the most scenic setting in the state of PA. Built before 1885, the Monterey CC course is one of the 10 oldest of the 15,00-plus courses in the US (the first opened in 1794 in Savannah, GA). The club and course keep the ambiance of another era. The 387-yd dogleg first hole, which crosses a brook, is the hardest. Its green is across the tree-lined land from the exact spot at which the Duchess of Windsor was born in 1896 in a cottage next to the old Monterey Inn. The most interesting hole may be the 5th with a Scottish-style mound that spans the entire width of the fairway in front of the green. The 7th hole has a daunting bowl green from another ear. Accuracy and position are important at the Monterey Club course as they were for the soldiers in July of 1863 when they fought the Monterey Skirmishes on acres same 37 acres immediately after the tree day Battle of Gettysburg. The Monterey Country Club course, a favorite of US Presidents, is 8 mile across the mountains form Camp David. Course Details
