Mattaponi (pronounced "matta-poh-NYE") Springs is a high-end public-access course in central Virginia's Caroline County. The course design was a collaboration between Bob Lohmann and Mike Benkusky. The name "Mattaponi" references the Mattaponi Indians, who lived and hunted in this area. The "springs" are actual freshwater springs located throughout the property and feed into the Mattaponi River.

This is a fantastic routing, meandering through mature woods with no houses around. Zoysia fairways are wonderful to hit off of. Great challenge, but can be scored on. Off the beaten path, but has picked up a lot more business recently. Nice clubhouse, too!

DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE. I absolutely love it. Incredible fairways, true greens, friendly staff, challenging and rewarding. Great value even at $90 per round. So please, DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE because I want to keep it the hidden gem it is!

Awesome course...greens were very good, not marked up much at all and rolled true. No one was on the course on a Saturday afternoon. Driving can be unforgiving and penal. Will be back to play again.

A true gem, IMO better than Bulle Rock and a lot less expensive. Zoysia fairways might be the best I've ever seen. It's a fair test, with lots of elevation changes. Didn't see a ranger the entire round, and we had people backed up behind a foursome of geezers just in front of us who couldn't seem to play ready golf even though they had THREE carts. Bottom line, I love this course!

WOW! What a course. They do like to kick you in the n#ts right out of the gate. Number 1 was a way to wake you up for the rest of the round. Massive elevation changes and superb fairways... The greens were very nice, and they too had plenty of tiers and undulation. All of the bunkers were groomed and it looked like the tee boxes had never been used!
The fairways were like hitting off fake turf. It didn't seem real!
The staff was very helpful and polite. We played early morning on a Friday and were the first ones out, so pace was not an issue.

What a GREAT Course!! Very Impressive! If you've not golfed Mattaponi Springs, you are missing out. I can say without question that the service I experienced there is without equal.. The course was exceptionally maintained and the staff was eager to make my visit a memorable experience.

great course, greens rolled perfect. Guy in the shop was a litte rude, other than that a great place to stop and play on the way south.
