Beginning as a dream just over 10 years ago, Crimson Ridge is now Sault Ste. Marie’s newest championship, and only public access, 18 hole golf course. A group of Saultites began the development in the early nineties, but the project was abandoned in 1992 due to a number of constraints.

In April of 2000, the 335 acre site north of Fourth Line was purchased from Algoma University. Many other sites were investigated over the nine year span, but the Fourth Line Property always remained the favourite due to its scenic beauty and superior soil conditions.

Former Sault native Kevin Holmes, now with the MBTW Group of Toronto was hired in May of 2000 as the golf course architect. It was also in May that Meakin Forest Products of Sault Ste. Marie began the clearing of Kevin’s 19 hole layout.

September of 2000 was when the course began to literally take shape. Warren Radomsky Golf of Calgary, Alberta was hired to bring Kevin’s design to life. Shaping began and continued through August of 2001.

The construction project and seeding began in June of 2001. The final seed was laid in September of that year. As construction neared completion in the fall of 2001, the final product was truly identifiable. Crews were busy applying the finishing touches to a truly spectacular championship design and the urge to play the first few rounds could be felt in all involved.

Seven years later and the 13th Ranked Public Golf Course in Ontario has taken shape led by Garry Terris, the Superintendant and his staff who have supplied golfers from around the world with a Championship Golf Course here in beautiful Sault Ste Marie.
