For a public course, this is a great place to play. It always seems to be in good shape. Many fairways (and greens) on the front 9 seem flat, but, in fact, have a strong lean downhill. This needs to be factored in to your drives, approaches and putts. And the 6th hole (par 3) is known to some as "the toughest par 6 in CT!" Use at least 1 club more than normal (I use 2 clubs more) and be sure to land short of the pin. The whole green slants heavily downhill from back to front. The 9th hole is an easy par 5 which can help you finish the front on a good note, but watch out for the heavily leaning fairway (left to right). You can easily hit the fairway and roll deep into the right rough if you hit a strong fade.
The back 9 is a bit easier in general with 6 of the holes across the street from the main part. These holes are a bit more level. There are however, some challenging holes to keep you honest.
There is a range, but unfortunately, for irons only, and hitting is off very hard mats. $5 a bucket in '09.
All in all, a good place play, usually always in nice condition and not ridiculously expensive.
