One reason this course is notable is because it is where 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel got started in the game by his father, George. In fact, Schwartzel maintains a residence in Vereeniging, about a 45-minute drive outside Johannesburg.
While the club dates to 1926, the course opened around 1930 with a design first by George Peck of Felixstowe, England, with finishing by another Englishman, Major S.V. Hotchkin. Then in 1998, the club retained architect Peter Matkovich for a major redesign and rebuilding of greens and bunkers. After removal of water hazards and the planting of native grasses, this parkland course now has a bit of inland links flavor.
