This private club was founded in 1907 by Alfred Lovekin. Six-time Open champion Harry Vardon did the original design, which was later modified by Harry S. Colt, whose famous "upswept" bunker faces are in play 96 times on the course. Over the decades, CHGC has hosted many professional and amateur events, including the annual Peter McEvoy Trophy, which attracts many junior golfers from around the UK and Europe. (Peter Baker, Brian Davis, Justin Rose, Steve Webster, and Lee Westwood are among the previous winners.)
Visitors are welcome at most times during the week, but advance arrangements are recommended. The standard walking rates are £45/round and £55/day. Societies are also welcome with prior arrangement.
