This course has both notable architecture and an important piece of golf history.
The notable architect Willie Park, Jr. did the original design of this course in 1893, although another architect and five-time Open Champion, James Braid did some revisions a couple of decades later. The notable history is that one of the club's founders, a blacksmith named Thomas Horsburgh, invented the first steel golf club shaft, taking out a patent in 1894. The original clubs and patents are on display in the new clubhouse. Also noteworthy are the picturesque views over the city of Edinburgh.
Visitors and societies are welcome, although advance booking is highly recommended, given the busy club schedule. Discounts are available when booking online.
