This attractive course has quite a bit of history, not the least of which is that Harry S. Colt designed the original course that opened in 1911. (Martin Hawtree did some restoration work and other strategic redesign work in 2003.) Some of the native grasses lining the course are of such importance that the entire course was declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1973; the owners manage it in cooperation with Natural England to ensure the propagation of rare flora and fauna.
Visitors are welcome Monday-Friday except Tuesdays (Ladies Day) and at certain times on weekends and holidays. Societies are also welcome with prior arrangement. Summer visitor walking rates are £50/round, £65/day, although twilight and winter rates are lower.
