Enjoyable course, visited March 2013:
We have been coming to Murcia for the last 5 years, staying in Hacienda Riquelme and usually playing about 3 – 4 different courses. Saurines was on our list for this visit.
Of the 8 courses we have played so far, we would rate Saurines in the top 3. It is a par 72 measuring 5,952 metres from the yellow tees. Notable features are the elevated, undulating greens, with run off areas and 2 lakes, one measuring 6 hectares coming into play on a number of holes. We found it to be a most enjoyable course but experienced quite a few good shots that hit the green (and reasonable putts) running off the lightning fast greens (a la The Masters in Augusta). We were, however, disappointed by the very noticeable shortage of water in the lakes (the big lake was down about 28 feet, such that wading birds would walk freely around the lake bottom). Also, quite a few apartment blocks have yet to be finished and the pro shop and changing rooms are still of a temporary nature. We arrived a bit early for our twilight round and there was no trouble starting before our time.
There are long walks between holes – great if you need the exercise but, if not, make sure you book a buggy.
All in all we felt it was good value for money – well worth a return visit.
