Charlie Vettiner Golf Course

This course is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, dressed-up with considerable amounts of sand and water, including ponds on 5, 14, and 18.

This course features rolling hills and zoysia fairways leading to bent grass greens, and has been rated the 7th-most challenging course in Kentucky. But as with MetroParks' other courses, orange tees are specially provided for juniors and beginners.

Charlie Vettiner Park (attached) also features a fishing lake, fitness course, hiking trails, and a playground. Don't be surprised to see a few hand-launched gliders in the park; the Louisville Area Soaring Society is based there.

I played Vettiner today for the first time, and of the Louisville-Metro courses, this is by far my favorite.
Greens are rolling fast with a nice mix of tiered, sloped, and flat ones.
Fairways and layout are excellent with tree and bunker placement challenging but fair.
I found a former-pot bunker on the first par 3 hole (hole 2, I think) that they have allowed to grow this EVIL grass in BIG penalty--NICE--made me feel like I was in Scotland.
Now the tee boxes are AWFUL-- I wouldn't call that grass . . . But life is short, and I have tees.
This course is a gem at any price, but For $12.50 weekday morning, I am sorry this is the best deal in town. I already have my next tee time.

My opinion of this course has continued to drop over the past several years. The maintenance has been going down hill since 2006. The layout is fantastic and is very challenging. Play it early in the season when they still have grass.
