Was very disappointed with this course! Did not enjoy the layout, did not enjoy the conditions. The greens were as hard as a rock. I about broke my ball mark tool trying to fix one of my marks. Will not be playing this course again.

I was very disappointed with this course. The layout was great, but for almost $100, it's a total ripoff. The range and warmup areas are nice, and the fairways and tee boxes were pretty good. The greens, however, were awful. They had just been aerated and were COVERED in sand. Granted, they are obviously not always like this, but to charge full price for the course in that kind of shape is ridiculous! I wasn't surprised that they were empty on a Sat. morning after playing it myself.

It looks like new management IS helping a lot. I was at PB Dye and despite the fact that rained shortened our day (out of their control as far as I can tell), the course was in AMAZING shape- especially for this early in the year.

I think this course is def on the way back to being one of the top in the DC area. Still pretty expensive though...

Prior to 2007, PB Dye was a favorite place to play. It was well maintained and great hospitality. I organized 3 tournaments from 2005 through 2007 at PB Dye. The 2007 outing left a bit to be desired -- I haven't played there since!

90 degrees and they are offering ice cold towels as you are loading. However, an employee removed all the water coolers about 4:00pm just 10 minutes after receiving the towels. Course could have been in better shape - numerous bunkers with ponds in them and hadn't rained in nearly 2 days. 6 bunkers on the back 9 were mud and bare ground and barely had any sand in them. Greens were marked up bad as well as the fairways. Course is gimmicky with every tee shot being a blind shot that you either hit uphill and then a downhill approach or a downhill tee shot and an uphill approach.

The bag boy was extremely apologetic about the water situation and assured us he would let the appropriate person know in the morning. He also said that a new course management company (Billy Casper Golf) took over in April and has made a lot of improvements in the short time they have been on the scene. I can say that this was the best condition I have seen the course, but it has a LOOOOONG way to go.

played with pbotting that day and he's not kidding when he says the course in brutal condition.

THE GOOD:
The layout of the course itself is magnificent! It was well worth it's "26th toughest course in the US" rating by Golf Digest.
I lost balls just off the fairway because of the length of the grass (by design), so it's definately a challenge.
The staff was friendly and polite, and even helped me with replacing a metal spike left over on my shoes.
The driving range was stocked with balls to hit
The food in the clubhouse was pretty decent for the price.
The view of the course would have been nicer had the course been in shape, but it was nice!

THE BAD and THE UGLY:
The fairways were mostly green but some holes were 1/2 brown and half green.
The greens had good spots and then there were whole square chunks of the greens that were replaced but obviously not done very well.
The pace of play was really slow. There was a 3-some of ladies ahead going very slow and no Marshall in sight to tell them to speed up play, alot.
The price of $96 for a course in horrible shape is robbery, especially with a 40+ mile drive...

CONCLUSION:
Avoid this course until it's brought back into respectable shape by the grounds-crew. I doubt I'd play it even for $20 a round.

brutal conditions - someone should contact Mr. Dye and request they remove his name from the course. Terrible maintenance, brown grass, patches on greens. Definately not worth the price.
