Cottonwood Golf Club

Two 18-hole courses dating to 1962 are at this popular public facility; the Ivanhoe course plays a little longer than the Lakes and was good enough to host qualifying for the PGA Tour's annual San Diego stop for a number of years. As the name suggests, the courses run through stands of mature cottonwood trees. Several PGA of America and LPGA teaching professionals are available for lessons.

The standard walking rates on the Ivanhoe course are $22 weekdays, $39 on weekends and holidays; with a cart the rates are $29 and $50. Weekend rates on the Lakes course are slightly lower.

It's cheap, but that's about all it has going for it. Driving range is a disaster. The 'grass' tees are anything but grass. And if you DO happen to find a grass spot, it's not fairway-type grass, it's more a backyard type grass. And I'm not sure if they've ever switched out the balls - they hurt to hit. I just can't justify using this range, even though it's by far the closest to my house. The course is sufficient, I guess. It's a course, and like I said, it's cheap. Better options for your money.

Cottonwood golf and mining is often confused for a dog track but it is cheap enough to make you forget about all the dirt
