withdrew - 3/19/08 Nice course for being in Brooklyn.
Value, what can I say- It's a public course and I'm a NYC resident. Less than $40 on a weekend, that's not too bad. The pace was pretty slow on the back 9. We had a 5:47AM yes that's PRE-DAWN tee-time, which started out great but came to a crawl on the back. You can't expect to do much better on the busiest GC on the east coast. Maintenance, again you're talking about a Brooklyn Muni so you get your share of hackers and people with no sense as far as etiquette, fixing divots, ball marks, etc. so it's really not bad considering. I heard someone say that it's the best they've seen Dyker in years, so I guess that's a good thing. Hospitality was great, everyone was friendly. Scenery, what's better than the Poly Prep Clock and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge?
jhcreedon - 9/3/07 For a city course, it is a pretty good deal. Easy to get to for Manhattanites (take the R train to 86th, and walk/cab a few blocks). Although it can get packed, and hackers abound, you can't beat the value -- decent variety of shots, some interesting doglegs, and surprisingly good green maintenance. You'll only find better city courses on Staten Island. PS Dyker is totally renovating their clubhouse, so watch for the opening in 2008. Also, Dyker is building a 6-hole kid's golf center which will be free for children 6-13. The money came from Tiger Woods. TRIVIA: Dyker Beach is the course where Tiger Woods' father fell in love with the game--he frequently played it while he was stationed at Fort Hamilton.
