Pelham Bay Golf Course
With its long, undulating greens and gently rolling hills, the Pelham Bay Golf Course is both beautiful and pleasant to play on. No water hazards are to be found, although bunkers and sand traps do come into play. The signature hole is No. 9, a 433-yard par-4 made tough by its panoply of bunkers. Opened in 1905, the course was redesigned by John van Kleek in 1937.

Split Rock Golf Course
It's like playing golf in the woods. That's how much the trees surrounding Split Rock (opened in 1934 and designed by John van Kleek) affect the game, making for a tight, narrow course with fairways that require the expert's delicate touch. A creek crosses the course twice, making for a very mobile water hazard. And if all that isn't enough, the 18th hole requires a tee shot that basically involves hitting the ball around one of the oldest white oak trees in New York City. And they said this game was fun?

Pelham Bay is in great shape for the spring. The greens and the fairways are in excellent condition for a city course that gets more then its fair share of play. Unfortunately the course staff gets poor grades all around. From the pro shop attendants, to the starter, to the missing snack cart person and ranger. No one seemed to give a dam about the customers or the golf course they represent.

Nice course - challenging, but manageable. It's in pretty good shape right now. There are some pretty holes - even the couple that border the highway (a little noisy). If it's slow, it's REALLY slow. No marshals to help out either.

2 nice courses. paelham is links style ... can get very wet does not drain well. split rock can get very mosquito infested in the summer so just bring bug spray. but overall split rock is more challengeing and pelham is easier.
