Is anyone using the android app for GPS?

Is it working well for you guys?
For $20 for a year, if it works at all well, I think I will do it.

Just wondering what people think before I take the plunge.

Thanks in advance

I did take the plunge.
I like the extra stats. The gps ranges has helped a lot.
Broke 100 last night at one course I never have, and I shot a personal best 93 and won the club championships.

I definitely like it.
$20 is much Better than 200 + bucks for a skycaddie or a range finder.

I'm very happy Smile

1 to 5 (5 being really good)

How would you rate the accuracy and the speed that the distance updates?

My only drawback is the per year thing. I dont like commitment.

$20 for a year is a steal.
My connection sucks sometimes with the actual maps... but the actual distance etc works awesome.

I dont use the map much as all. But i use the distance measurement and the FRONT MIDDLE BACK on the green religiously.

If i am worried about a bunker i might use the map...

$20 for the year is nothing, if you dont like it, dont pay it next year.

The extra stats is cool though.

I've been using it. It works flawlessly on my Android. The score/stats entry is very slick, only takes a few seconds to punch in all the data on each hole. The accuracy is quite good, getting same yardages as another guy I played w/ last week that was using a dedicated GPS (uPro)

for me the $20 per year subscription is a deal breaker. I want an app that i can pay for one time, or better yet free. When i had a palm device, i used Intelligolf. it was outstanding and a VERY well written piece of code. It even interfaced with your computer so you could download data and do all the stat analysis you do here with an addict level subscription. I think i paid either $20 or $40 for it originally, and then i also added it to my blackberry.

I've bugged intelligolf several times to release a version for android, but i think they are stuck in the dark ages and stopped developing anything in 2008 or something.

I just simply can't stand the idea of having to pay a subscription to be able to use the GPS capability of MY phone with an app.

Can't really say too much about the map function of the app yet, but if the one course I looked at is any indication, it's terrible. Treasure Lake Gold Course, the tees are screwed up...we have a place on the 15th fairway and it's showing it as #6. Whereas, another app I looked at is correct...even skycaddie is correct (as should be expected) so being owned by skygolf, you'd think the oob app would at least get the tees in the right order.

I pony'ed up the $20 for Addict+ to get the GPS functionality. It's ok, but I agree that I would much rather have something that I pay for once. I think that the $20 a year is a bit steep for what you get. It isn't even that good. SkyDroid is much better and I belive I got that for free or for $1 (the problem there is that it doesn't keep score).

Overall, the app definitely needs some work to make it worth anything approaching $20, let alone $20 a year.

It does the same thing that a 200 skycaddie does, basically, for $20 for a year.
Those skycaddie's etc last what, 2-3 years.
Plus you lose it, forget it etc.

I'm happy with my 20 bucks.

I've been fooling around with GolfCard the last few days, and for the one time fee, it seems like a pretty banging deal. So what if you have to enter some of the data for your own course...if it's a course you play alot then it's worth it. It's not really any different than what i used to have to do with Intelligolf. Actually , GolfCard is a little more capable because you can trace the course and get a pro quality animated toon of each hole in a few minutes per hole. It's doesn't integrate with oob anymore, but i'm really after on course score and stat keeping, i can manually add the scores later to oob if it really means that much to me. The USHandicap uploads work, but the course data can be a little off. For the pro subscription of $30, you get a handicap, AND all the stat tracking you could ask for. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

My Addict subscription ends in a week or so and I've been contemplating going the Addict+ route. I've recently got an Android phone and have been using the oobgolf app for scores and GolfPad (free version) for the GPS. I only wish there was a distance measurement to measure tee shots. Is this a feature of the Oobgolf GPS rangefinder or does anyone have any recommendation for apps to measure straight line distance?

yes, the oobgolf app along with course maps includes a GPS feature where you mark a 'start' point (e.g. the tee box) and then mark it again when you reach your ball, thereby measuring the distance in yards (in a straight line)

Prepare to be disappointed by finding out what you thought was at least 250+ yards is, in reality, 200 yards. Laughing

Is that a comment towards the accuracy of the GPS or my perception that drives are longer than they actually are? I'm not worried if the latter. Wink
